I have a TD 1232 Pansonic. When calls ring in, there is a 1/2 ring and the switch picks up, then drops the call. It does this on all lines. Phone lines checked ok by phone company. Moved the switch to a different building and all lines work normally. Phone company still says lines are good. Ordered tested, refubished switch and install. Same problem, switch will not work at one building and will at other locations. Phone company says Panasonics are both bad. Put up a Toshiba refurbuished switch and it is working. Has anyone had this type of problem with Panasonic?

try reversing the polarity of the CO line as they come into the Panasonic, also check the incoming voltage on the incoming lines.
can you make outgoing calls on the lines?

I would suggest that you have an independant technician test your lines at your network boundry, you can't always trust a carrier(phone company)to admit to a fault.
if your switch works fine at other sites then you have to assume that there is something specific to your building that is affecting the operation of the 1232.

I tried the polarity and it did not work. Outgoing calls work fine. I notice if it is going to work at all, it will be after the incoming line is disconnected for a few minutes and then connected up again. It will work one time and then back to the seize and droping. I will check ring voltage and frequency . The switch has been working several years with no problem. This ma have something to do with wet cable, I am in the west part of Texas and it is usually very dry. There has been a lot of rain lately and the ground is wet. Still don't know why this would not affect the Toshiba just like the Panasonics. I thank you very much for the response.

Check your ground I understand that it been in for few years ground could have chance .

Good tip, I have not done that. will do that tomorrow. Thanks

I have hundreds of TD systems out there ungounded and have had the line tipped over and not had the problems you have
discribed you either have a loopcross on the incomming line or you have a faulty alarm panel or inside wiring problems

He said all lines not just one line. If that the case try hooking one line at time also ext at the ksu to test the system.

Cwc3, why would a compentant Tech not earth a telephone system.

Thanks for all the help and tips, but nothing has explained this problem. I will use the panasonic in another location and leave the Toshiba in place. Don't have the time to work on this any more. If anyone ever has the same problem (unlikely as it may be) please post it.
Thanks again

it's not required the ksu is grounded through the
third prong !!

Even though the earth does come from the third prong, say the system has battery backup and becomes unplugged from the wall??

Where does the earth go then??

If you ask the Panasonic Tech support they will tell you to Ground the System , Surely you were awake during that part of the training.

In section 2.2.5 of the manual, it is clearly stated, "You must connect the frame of the main unit to earth"

Quite simply, if you aren't doing that, then its evidence that you have not read the manual.....

Case of the pot calling the kettle black really...

Maybe we have aunique situation here , but in our location we do not earth systems due to the non coductive nature of the pumice soil. 29 years and never earthed a system yet, may sound foo lhardy , but all systems "float" above earth to avoid ground loops. Even when the country telco was the only company installing PABXs before de-regulation, no earth was the accepted installation

I forgot to say that I was based on Nantuncket Island
for 20 years a virtual floating sandbar and they generated there own electricty for 10 of the 20 years and when ever there
was equipment meltdown it was actually becuase of potential
to ground or seeking a lighting hit because it was hard
grounded .I had two cocot payphones one on a hard 8 Gauge wire hard ground on it to a ma'bell ground stake and one didn't and the building took a direct lightning hit guess which one got blown off the wall ...so don't ask me about competent techs ...... I have 200 of those td and 20 11d's
left humming away out with no ground out there and not one complaint.

Shaun,

Just because you haven't got a need to earth your system's, doens't really mean anything to the rest of the world.

Do you think that everybody in the world lives on Nantuncket Island and thus is in the same boat as you??

If all you ever say is "RTFM" or "Are you an authorized dealer," what is the point of posting at all.

Perhap these people have read the manual, and haven't understood it properly. Your read the manual post is just going to be a waste of everybody's time.

Do you have so much free time to spare that you just sit on this forum and wait for some one to post so you can tell them they're incompetant?

<Insert any of one of your comments here> Everyone on this site needs your comments like everyone needs a hole in the head.
