Paging with IP office to External Speakers 4

we have a Ip office with 2 sites
site 1 has 403 with 8 digital phones

site 2 has 406 with (1)16 port analog tunk module
(1) 16 port Digital
(1) 30 port Digital
using 40 digital sets

We tried using an open analog port in site 1 and define
it as Paging speaker in EXTENSIONS field under
Equipment Clasification : defaults to "standard"
saved immediate ...but when calling analog extension we
get a busy ...per the notes under the "help' menu says:

No ringing is generated and the call will pickup immediately ........
since we are using the "TEL" port of off the
100 watt amp we should just get an open speech path to
feed into the amp ....we know the amp is good because
we can change it back to "standard" and wire it to the
"tel ring" port off of the amp and get RINGING through the speakers (call it Night ringing )

is there any way to program an unused Co port for paging
I know you can do it with a Legend System, Definity
and the Partners already have a Page port on the processor
just curious if anyone out there has used this behind a
paging system .

Thanks for any and all posts

FYI:
We tried using Extension Id 74&78 analog ports on
the 403 Module ....

Pabell,

I have successfully installed 3 IPO's involving paging sytems, all of which use CO ports. This is how you do it:

1. First choose an availible line port and give it a outgoing and incoming line ID. On the Analog tab, make the trunk type Loop start, Direction to outgoing,& bearer to voice. You can change the dB level if you want to change the outgoing volume. (think of it as squelch control)

2. Make a new system short code. Here is the one I chose:
Short code = *80 Tel number is blank Feature is dial, and the line group = what ever you made that availible trunk port.

3. Next you can either map a button on the phones with the feature being Dial, and tel number being *80, or just leave it at that and reboot the system. Without the button users will have to remember the code.

4. After the reboot, you should be able to press the button, or key in the short code and access your paging system.

Works every time.

The issue was that we required a trunk port adaptor between
the Ip office and the 100 watt amp ...we were able to figure out the short code issue once we installed the bogen
device ....

Thanks for the post :)

Pabell,

I have the same situation, how did you resolve the shortcode problem, I have the Bogen adaptor and AMP and get the busy signal. Thanks in advance.

Does anybody notice that the output from a Alog extension configured as paging is very Low, place a LIU and it no unsable.

Folks you can use the analog station port, which allows you to page through sets and amp at same time - something you can't do when using a CO port. However, you must clip onto the port with your butt-set, with the paging amp connected properly to that same port, with the port set to standard. Initiate an immediate reboot of the 403, and go off-hook on your buttset (you should hear dialtone). STAY off hook through the reboot, when the 403 comes back up you should hear a steady tone for a few seconds, then silence. At that point you can disconnect your buttset and all should be good.

I have had this procedure not work on some obscure amps, but standard bogen 100amp amplifiers have always worked using above.

Unfortunatly the above method is not very good for remote maintanence, requireing an eng to bodge the paging amp everytime the system is rebooted.
extns when set to paging amp should give a constant speach pprovided the amop is connected using the correct paging addapter.
if the phone port is not of hook when the system is rebooted the speachpath does not seem to get connected on the 1st call.
I would sugest that this befavior needs to be escalated to avaya for correction.

I agree that it is a bizare method for getting it to work. However, you only have to "bodge" the amp when connecting it initially. After that you can freely reboot without having to be onsite.

experiments here with just a handset (i have no amp) show that the Pot port needs to be of hook on a reboot, if the ext is not taken of hook untill after a reboot then the 1st call to the port will have no speach all further calls work ok,
checking out recomendatons for connection to a paging amp gives the following info. - the amplifier must give an isolated input otherwise a paging adapter is req.

a discription of a paging adapter is available from the crane websile :-

The Paging module consists of :-
1) An RJ45 plug
2) A choke to limit cable hum etc.
3) A 900W 0.75W d.c. load to force off-hook
4) 2 off 100nF (min working voltage 50V) caps to a.c. couple
5) A 1k resistive load to lower a.c. impedance to nearer the 600W usual telephone load
6) A diode clamp to limit the click
7) A 100nF cap to damp out h.f. on the output
8) A 3.5mm jack socket.

Item 3 seems to be the important item here

You're right, it is. And the tel input of a bogen amp provides that. Your tests didn't work for you precisely because you didn't have an amp connected. I have many sites setup as I described above, I reboot them remotely with no probs because the amp is connected and keeps the station port off-hook through the reboot.

Peter

PS of course I STILL agree it's nutty and wish Avaya would clear it up :)

Is there a minimum milliamp requirement from the power supply for the TAMB/UPAM? I had a power supply for a TAMB with with a 35 milliamp output and a 450 milliamp output, the 450 milliamp output was the only one that would work. A friend of mine is using a UPAM power supply that only has a 100 milliamp output and is having the same problem I had with the 35 milliamp TAMB power supply. Is universal not actually universal?

IPGuru: Do you have a link to a circuit diagram for the paging adaptor? It looks like it could be exactly what is needed for our IPO problem.

Unfortunatly the desciption I have mearly lists components & not the actual circuit.

It should be available on the documents CD

Unforutnately there's nothing on the docs CD to show how to put one of these things together; however I've bought a little device from Maplins (telephone recorder device); upon opening it up, the only things that are missing are the 900W load and the choke. I'll give it a try on monday, and if it works, post the circuit diagram here for those interested.

Guys,
Try this, it has worked on all paging systems so far.

Connect to an avalible analog station and program it for paging. Do a reboot to send the config, then with the amp on and connected do a power cycle of the IPO. Once this is done future reboots/power cycles have no effect on the page port. Has worked every time with the only complaint being the click before and after when using Valcom self amplified paging. There is a fix to that one too if anyone is interested.

Now you can leave your butt set at home Peter.
Please don't ask me why this works.

I'm also hoping that the by using this device, it will filter out the high pitch noise that we are picking up, and also remove the click.

Also, on our IPO, I've noticed that after every reboot (and there's been a fair few, as I'm still playing with hunt groups (and 2.0 appears to need a reboot to set one up)), the speech path is non-existent. I have to put a phone in parallel with the link to the paging amp to get it to go "off-hook

How exactly does one get rid of the click before and after a page with the Valcom paging?

The click can be worked around by having a short delay after the page before hitting the drop key to end the page. It almost totally removes the click.

An example would be "Mr Flounders, you have a call on Park 1.....(1 second pause)" then hit drop, no the switch hook. I don't have any idea why it works, but it does.

Also found that on 44XX phones, if you use the menu key and then the drop key from the soft keys it even sounds better.
