Hi all.

I am in the process of upgrading to Exchange 2003 from Exchange 2000. I
have setup my OWA 2003 servers. I have the password option enabled. I have
one backend server that is exchange 2003 and the rest are still exchange
2000.

My problem is that when I try the password change option for a mailbox that
is on a exchange 2000 server I get a 404 error, page not found. It works
fine for mailboxes on the Exchange 2003 server.

When my OWA server was Exchagne 2000 the password option worked perfectly.
Why doesn't it work for Exchange 2003 OWA and how the heck do I fix it?

Thanks in advance!

Kevin

First upgrade your front end servers to E2K3, then your back end servers.

Thanks for the reply but that is exactly what I have done and where I am at now. I have upgraded the front end to exchange 2k3 and can not get the page to come up to change the password on the exchange 2k back end servers.

Hmmm, no you stated in your 1st message: I have one backend server that is exchange 2003 and the rest are still exchange 2000.

Anyway, I'll suppose your front end is e2k3 and back end is e2k. Do they use IPSec to communicate between each other?

You also stated: It works fine for mailboxes on the Exchange 2003 server. You mean you have mailboxes on your front end?!?

Sorry if I did not make myself clear. I was all Exchange 2000 with front end and back end servers. I first upgraded the front end servers to Exchange 2003. These are for OWA. I then installed one new Exchange 2003 backend server. The rest of my back end servers are still Exchange 2000.

I did not setup IPSec.

Kevin

I'm not sure but I think you need to have your back end servers all at the same level. I mean or all E2K, or all E2K3, but not some E2K and some E2K3.

As long as the Frontend server is 2003, you can have a mix in the backend. Ours works fine like that.

After we upgraded to 2003, we also had the problem with the Change Password through OWA. I then read on Technet that with 2003 you need to create your own change password page. Why? I don't know.

Let me take a look for that article. If you can find the article and send me the link it would be so appreciated. Thank you. Kevin

I am having same problem, but do not see the solution here or the article mentioned by Bierhunter. Sleighbor, if you are still monitoring this post, how did you fix your problem?

Hi Steve.

I had to pay Microsoft support for the answer. You will not find it anywhere. The problem is that IIS 6 in Windows 2003 uses .asp pages and IIS 5 in W2k used .htr files. It is a simple fix.

Go into the c:\windows\system32\inetsrv\iisadmpwd directory and copy all of the .asp files to .htr. I did it at the command prompt - "copy *.asp *.htr".

After that go into IIS Manager, right click on the IISADMPWD virtual directory and go to properties. Click on the Configuration button. Then we want to add a mapping from htr to asp.dll.

Click on the Add button. In the Executable field put in the path to asp.dll (default is C:\WINDOWS\system32\inetsrv\asp.dll), the extension is .htr and under Verbs limit it to GET,POST,TRACE,HEAD for security reasons. Restart IIS or reboot the server and test it out. If it works I just saved you $245! Good luck! Kevin

That is great! I am so glad that I was able to help you out with this. I was racking my brain for a week before giving in and calling Microsoft PSS. It figures I just passed through Nashville about 6 months ago! Kevin

I have the same OWA Password problem and wanted to make something clear...do i carry out the modifications on the

Front End OWA 2003 Server or
Back End Exchange 2000 with SP3 Server.

Thanks,

Rishi

Rishi,

I did everything on the front end.

Hop that helps,
Steve

I am trying to achieve the same thing, can someone please explain this part:

I have no idea what the .htr file is or where it is located?
