Overhead Paging issue

For our overhead paging system, we have a Bogen amp that used to work fine with our old Definity cabinet and an announcement board that was associated with a trunk. We upgraded to Aura, and now use a trunk card port to activate the line, and that sort of works. It always connects, and will eventually work. The issues are that we hear the tone indicating the connection has been made, but the announcement initially can't be heard, then starts off very low volume(barely audible), and after a few seconds, goes to full volume. It seems to work a lot more consistently with dialing the trunk access code directly, but using a speed dial string is iffy. I tried to use ~m in the string, and that seemed to help. I still don't have a good answer from Avaya as to what ~m actually does. I previously had used the same abbreviated dial that we used with the old system, which included the ~p(pause), but now that frequently exhibits the symptoms described above. I have had better success with the ~m. One thing that could be a factor is that the port on the trunk card is on the third gateway module in line. We have found that fax lines on any but the first gateway in line are problematic. I'm trying to find a solution that will work consistently, speed dial or not. Any troubleshooting steps would be appreciated, or suggestions for alternative solutions. We are a hospital, and need to make time sensitive announcements from time to time. No/low volume delays aren't acceptable.

Do you have SIP capability? If so, try the SNOM PA1, it sets up as a SIP extension and sounds better than most analog paging control units....and since it's SIP, you don't get the Trunk Release "pop or click" noise upon release.

The device connects to an amplifier via a standard RCA cable and can fit into an amplifiers RCA input jack. Would something like this work? What's the announcement board? A Dukane product?

Thanks RLSButton, I don't know if we have SIP capability or not. Is that a type of card? How do I tell if we have SIP or not. Our current setup is a trunk off an NM711 card that gets ported to the analog input on the Bogen amp.

do you have a Bogen TAM B? Is the Bogen powered by an amplifier? is it a combination amplifier with a telephone/trunk for paging combined?

Going to your fax issues on that gateway's card... have you tried moving the fax lines to another analog card / another gateway? Also, have you checked what IP Codec region/settings you have ?

What gateways are you using now? If they are G430, or G450 thay are IP connected and faxing issues could be fixed using the codec set for your network region. Faxing options are on page 2 of the codec set. My guess is your outbound lines or T1 are in the first gateway. You most likely had an Aux trunk card in the old Definity system. That was a lot better for paging in my opinion as you had a dry loop you could trigger the paging. Now with a trunk card there may be a UPAM in it and it may be driven by the loop start from the trunk card with the UPAM having external power to it. On those I set it up to be a station and have the UPAM powered bu the ringing from the station port. I had much better luck that way. Let us know what you have between the Bogan Amp and the Gateway. Link to the UPAM doc.
