when running under windows 98 the output (to printer or file) from SELECT (columns from table) or DISPLAY STRUCTURE only had a couple of spaces between each column of output but under 2000 lots of spaces are inserted (not tabs). eg with display structure there are about 20 spaces before the field number as copied below....
1 STRESREF Character 8
2 MEMBER Character 8

... similar spaces inserted with select command. Also there appears to be a minor difference in the number of spaces used whether sending to printer or file.

Would appreciate any help, thanks
Ted

by the way, I'm quite impressed with the general level of response to queries

I've found that the number of spaces is dependent on the screen's font characteristics. You can change this setting in the FOXPRO.INI file (usually in the Windows directory - c:\windows\). You'll have to restart FPW if you change this file while FPW is open. Another way is in FPW, with the command window currently active, hold down the shift key and click on the menu pad Text, you should see Screen Font..., select this and change to a "smaller", fixed width font. Note: When sending it to the printer / file, you may also need to change the printer settings in the FOXPRO.INI file.

thanks Rick...
just changed PrtFontName to 'courier' and all's well. It's weird that use of a non-proportional font should cause the insertion of numerous extra spaces but that's Microsoft for you.

Rick..
all was not well with the printer until I figured that it didn't recognise 'courier' but it did recognise 'new courier'.

the things nobody tells you !!!!
