We are having a problem getting Outlook 2003 to connect to more than one mailbox on Exchange 2010.

We log into Outlook 2003 as a Exchange 2003 mailbox user with permissions set to access two 2010 mailboxes. Client-server encryption is enabled. We connect to a calendar (mailbox a) using "File > Open > Other User's Folder...". This is successful. We then try to open a second mailbox (mailbox b) also on the same Exchange 2010 server and it fails with the message:

"Unable to display the folder. The information store could not be opened."

Then we close and open Outlook, reverse the order, and the same thing happens. "Mailbox b" on Exchange 2010 works, and "mailbox a" now fails when opened second. When using Outlook 2007 or Outlook 2010 this problem does not occur. Those are not options at this moment, we need to use Outlook 2003 for now.

Any ideas would be appreciated. Thank you.

what happens if on the client you go to tools> accounts >exchange > more settings>advanced THEN add the mailbox. Open and close outlook then try?

In that case, I can open one mailbox tree, but attempting to open the other returns "Unable to expand the folder. The set of folders could not be opened.

sounds like permissions, if you grant full access temporaraly to the account that is trying to open the mailbox does the same happen?

Full access is already granted. That is how it can open either one individually. This is very strange and it feels like a bug.

bizzare with 2007 being ok, a chat with the fellow exchange people here and one mention disabling cached mode on the pc then trying as this cured an issue opening multiple calendars also.

When a Microsoft Office Outlook 2003 user of a mailbox on Microsoft Exchange Server 2003 tries to open more than one additional mailbox or a shared folder from more than one mailbox that is homed on Exchange Server 2010, one of the following error messages is generated:

1. The set of folders could not be opened.
2. The information store could not be opened.
3. Unable to display the folder. The information store could not be opened.

Note This problem does not occur if the Exchange Server 2003 mailbox user only opens one delegated mailbox or shared folder from only one mailbox of Exchange Server 2010 in Outlook 2003.
