Hi all,

Since inheriting management duties of a HiPath 3750 in my new role I've found plenty of answers for issues I've been having in these forums. I've been pulling my hair out trying to make a OptiPoint 420 Standard HFA play nicely with it and I thought this would be the best place to try for advice.

The 3750 is running HiPath 3000 V4.0 and our HG1500 is V3. I can get detailed info about the phone firmware on Monday if needed.

After replicating most of the configuration found in one of our 410 Entry phones (including its own static IP address, no DHCP on our phones), I can only get as far as "Initialising telephony" on the display.

I've taken a 410 out of service and been using the same subscriber number to eliminate any possible licensing issues.

One thing I've noticed is that every time I save the config, restart the phone - if I go back into the config, the "System" setting has reverted to "HiPath 4000 V1.0" even though I selected "HiPath 3000 V4.0", I've also tried "HiPath 3000 Generic" to no avail.

If need's be, I can sell the phone on and just buy a 410 Standard but various sources indicate that the 420 should work with the 3000 V4.0.

Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated.
Ollie

Firstly try a factory default of the phone, set it up again and test.
If still not working then check the software level
Logon on to a known working same model phone using Check the software level on the faulty phone and compare.

Also download the only release on Tondio - there is a PDF Document with that called Release Notes.
It gives the various versions of HG Card that the phone is compatible with

Thanks kindly for your reply,

Back at work and I can confirm the software versions on the 420 is: V5 R5.3.0

We have no other 420s, the 410s we use are on version 2.0.3.0053 DBG.

The HG1500 is version: HI-G15.35.005

I've just grabbed the release notes - will have a read through this morning.

Thanks,
Ollie

Edit: In the release notes for V5R6.7.0 it states that the minimum HG board required is "HXG3 Version HI-G15.52.004 or later", mine is G15.35. I have no release notes for the current phone software version (V5.R5.3.0) but if this were to be the issue, is the HG software easily updatable without licensing implications etc?

An update of sorts - I've got a 410 Economy Plus to try now. Configured appropriately and the exact same problem! It just hangs on "Telephony Initialising" - gone through all the previously mentioned steps.

The application version is: V5 R6.3.0

I've found a 410 Economy that is functioning fine on our hipath, the application version is: 2.0.3.0053 DBG

Reaching hair-pulling-out level now! The 410 is at least officially supported by the 3k v4.

Am I missing a step in setting up the new station with the pbx/hg card or are we still looking at firmware? I can't find out what the "DBG" is in reference to in the earlier mentioned phone.

Any suggestions or ideas still appreciated.

Thanks,
Ollie

I'm scouring the internet as best I can and cannot find any older firmware to test - does anybody have anything older to hand that I can at least test? 420 standard or 410 eco plus!

On a customer site last week they had the same problem, turned out that there was a phone already configured with that Extension Number and the new phone was showing up "Initialising telephony".

Also what is there on Tondio is what is there.
If you can find any other relevant software upload it to the Temp folder on Tonido and I will put it into the correct spot.

Hmm... I've tried three different extensions, in one case actually taking a HFA phone out of service to borrow the extension. Each time I've mashed the check button in hipath manager. That was with the 420 though so I'll try some different extensions on the 410 tomorrow.

What's the difference between sub number and fully qualified subscriber number.. I've tried doing one or both already but not sure of the purpose of the two entries.

I wonder if our telco provider can give me an older firmware as they're confident they can still sell us phones for our system... If I ask nicely enough I might stand a chance.

Thanks for your reply, I really appreciate your help!

Have tested more thoroughly and still getting the same problem (absolutely certain that the subscriber number is not already in use)

I've spoken to our telco provider (who originally installed the system) and they are adamant that the phones cannot be downgraded and are very much of the view that they just will not work with the system...

It's all very frustrating as I've just not got the money to upgrade the system at the moment, school budgets are really locked down at the moment.

It gets even more infuriating - I've noticed that while it's stuck on "initialising telephony", I can actually ring the station - it doesn't ring but I get a ringing tone after I've dialed, if I pick up the handset it answers the call, albeit without any sound carrying, put the handset down and it ends the call - if I dial another station from it, the other station will ring. It's so close to working >.<

I've found this discussion
Here, it suggests that (even with a HG1500v2) the 4x0 phones should work but it requires firmware no newer than V5 R1.35.0. Does nobody have this version lying around?

Earlier versions of that firmware had problems which is why it was updated...
I will look again later but most of the time I would just flash what is now an unsupported phone with the last release of software.
Also have a look at thread965-1657510 as it may be relevant to this

420 Advance V5.1.13 and V5.1.17 added to Tonido

Now will that work on my 420std... I'll find out tomorrow! Massively appreciate you taking the time to help me out.... I've got a few things to try as well based on that thread tomorrow.

Will post an update tomorrow!

Downgraded the netboot, thought it was worth a shot, no difference. It won't touch the firmware... it'll need the std firmware *sigh*... so close!

I was running mine on V5 R6.7.0 if I am not mistaken. I looked to see if I still have it and I don't.

@donb01 is that with similar version Hipath and HG1500 card? I've tried V5 R6.7.0 on 410eco plus and 420std with no luck

No, it was a bit newer. Usually the release notes on the firmware will have a section on different things like minimum OS versions, minimum hardware version that works with that firmware, etc. The 410s and 420s used to be challenging, but once I had it figured out I roped the vendor into flashing them before they shipped them out. I'm in a 4K now so we switched everything to Openstage. Now that I think of it though - I copied my old computer to this new one and I know there is another Downloads directory in some strange place... I wonder what mysteries are in there - I will look.

Thanks, Don...

Our telco providers are telling me that the phones are categorically incompatible with our system. I personally don't believe this as I know they can be downgraded! I've lost count of the times I've said we can't afford to make any upgrade to the HiPath (which is the solution that they keep pushing) and I'm not kidding. I'd rather they just said they don't want to help with the phones because we bought them ourselves, which is what I suspect is their angle.

I've found a handful of really obscure directory listings on Google with optipoint firmware in but nothing older than V5 R6; it's infuriating haha.

An update...

I contacted a telco company that I've worked with at another school and they've been able to provide V5 R1.20.0 and I'm still getting the telephony initialising screen. I'll see if they've got older but going by the release notes for R1.20.0 it should be supported...

The required HG version is: HI-G15.35.005 (I'm on that exact version)

The required HiPath version is HE580B.10.811, I'm HE580S.08.715 - not sure if I meet this prerequisite or not as I don't know the difference between B and S but by now I'd expect something to be working! :(
