Hi All

Having tried to avoid one-x portal on the grouds that I though it was shite, I thought I had better get back into it, with the imminent demise of PMPro.
So, the new ipmroved version 8 is all installed etc.
Avaya tell me it is now compitible with IE9 too!

However, cannot see voicemeil messages in IE9, it just syas "checking messages". Might just be me, but after 5 hours I determined this was a problem.
So onto Firefox, in which I CAN see voicemail messages, however I cannot play messages from group mailboxes.
If I have messages in my own mailbox, and try to play a group message, it just plays the newest in my personal mailbox.
If I delete all personal messages, including old and saved and try to play a group message, I just get a short beep.
I know the message is a valid one as I can listen to it via phone access no problem.
I am sure I have missed something vital, maybe in the install or something, but can anyone shed any light on this for me??

Also, sorry for my cynical attitude when it comes to One-X Portal. And Avaya.

Many thanks!!

Dave

I am with you Dave, it's good when it works, however it doesn't work as well or work trouble free for as long as what it is supposed to be replacing, not yet. It is great for a while then you get daft little things that require a restart of the services, it's all eggs in one basket too so one failure effects all users. Yes Phone Manager is a pain to install across many PC's but once that's done it is fairly bullet proof. Phone Manager lite is free, One - X far from it, Phone manager is literally instant, One - x always a little laggy.. sometimes very.

Yes One-X can look fancy with gadgets etc but that's just window dressing, yes you can use it on Mac (less than 1% of our custromers have any Macs) . All people want is something easy to use as maint/trouble free as possible and at the lowest cost. I for one feel One-x portal does not provide this at the moment.

It's is a great annoyance to our sales team here, they have sold many IPOs off the back of Phone Manager - usually Lite for free then we get the upgrade to Pro.

The new Outlook plugin seems to go some way to bringing 1XP up to speed, but it just aint as good.

The only problems we get with PMPro are usually the customer's network.

And, yes you are right, its the cost too, and the requirement for a server, or space on an existing one. At least it doesnt seem to need a week and a half to boot up now though :)

Having been involved in the IPO since R1 I have seen a good idea turn into a great product and then slowly get battered by difficult to understand decisions from Avaya and the clear influence of Marketing types who do not understand the industry, and more importantly do not understand what the end users want and will buy.

Avaya have consistently failed to listen to their customers, who are US the resellers, NOT the end users.

Ooh did I go on a bit too much there...?? ;)

Not forgetting Dave that with R8 they cannot have One x without VM Pro because you can't assign user licences without VM Pro being present ...another large additional cost if they didn't want VM Pro to begin with :)

Yep that new licensing model is just crap.
There is also the charge for essential edition.
Basic Edition had no group mailboxes!
I dont think we have ever installed an IPO without a least one group mailbox.

I see a lot of resellers looking at alternative products. They will price themselves out of the smaller end.

It is justified by the reduction in cost for Voice Mail Pro, sorry Preferred Edition, but you have to buy essential anyway, which makes it the same.
And now you need Preferred to make other things work, or continue working, if you are upgrading.
Cannot find anyone yet who thinks the new licensing model has any benfit to resellers or end users.
Avaya's sales must have hit an alltime low what with the economy and crass stupidity at the top....

I have seen claims that IE9 is more standards compliant than any other browser (I take those claims with a pinch of salt as digging further the tests seem to relate to HTML5 only) however if it is the case have you turned of compatibility mode?

is another great piece of misdirection from Microsoft as it actually means compatible with earlier (non-standards compliant) versions of IE & not standards compatible.

A Maintenance contract is essential, not a Luxury.

one-x linux is much faster and less resource hungry.

IE9 does work

The checking message issue I think you need to install VM Pro web to get it to work.

Check compatibility mode on IE9
it defaults to Compatibility mode on local Intranet & may be the cause of the problem
(alternatively just stick with IE or a proper browser that works)

Only CCR has support for IE9 from Avaya so i would just use IE8 if you can.

Just found this post while search for One X portal help!

We have resorted to installing Chrome and using the application shortcut as it doesn't work properly with IE9.

Also, we have lots of problems reinstalling the software. The initial installation goes fine, but if for any reason you need to uninstall and reinstall it just doesn't! This is causing us major issues with 1 client as they have been down for nearly a month and neither the distie or Avaya can help. they say there is no known issue but we've had the same thing on 3 different systems, different O/S etc.

If the software is installed but not working correctly you get no repair option, just uninstall.
If you try and uninstall then re-install it doesn't copy half the files and folders across or the registry entries. not the same ones every time, it varies.

Has anyone else come across this and found a resolution (save copying them across from another working installation!)

Cheers

Ruth

You are aware that you need to turn of UAC (user acount control) when installing 1XP???

Thanks for the reply.

Yes, and we always make sure it's installed logged in as a local admin.

As I say, the initial install works fine, we only have problems with re-installs

Thanks
Ruth

How ironic that I'm sitting in a customer site having moved One-X from one server to another (the IT team originally provided the equipment and it proved lacking!).

Had some fun and games trying to restore the backup as webcontrol doesn't have write access to the backup directory on the server. Plus you need to run a backup first top create the directory, it's not there by default. Had to grant root SSH access to sort it.

Still, at least I know what to expect next time...

By the way, this customer have Phone Manager before but it didn't work too well in their RDP environment so thats why we upgraded to One-X. They don't like it very much...

One of these days everything will work as it should, and then we'll all be out of a job!

TheSmash, do you use the backup in the administrator account or the AFA account?

The AFA account is much better.
You can download a backup to your own PC and upload it from there to the new server
