We had an old Panasonic system which if you picked up the handset you would not get a dial tone and can dial an internal extension no problem.

If you wanted to dial out, you hit a line it would automatically add a 9 in place. and you dial your number.

With our current IPO if you pick up the handset, you get a dial tone, can dial an extension or press 9 to dial out.

While I think this is awesome and no problems, people are dialing 911.

Does IPO support the way the old Panasonic system works?

Any other ideas to avoid these people from dialing 911 and hanging up.

OH and I have read a few of the other posts and changing the short code to 9911 is not going to work for us as we also own our building and have other tenants that some are on our system.

Change your dial shortcode to 8

It's only dialtone!!!

Yes thats a thought.

But no way to get the IPO to mimic the Panasonic?

I have a feeling changing the shortcode 8 will cause major headaches for me from these end users

If you know how to use shortcodes (well) you can avoid the need for a prefix at all (as we do here by default), so you can just dial an extn or an external number straight off.....as ever there are some exceptions where it can't be achieved :)

You could use user rights to just change the short code for your group of users. I'm assuming you could also remove the entry for code '11' / tel no. '911' on the ARS table.

The only way to fix the problem is to either change your access code to 8, or remove the "11" code from the ARS route. They will be required to dial 9-911. This however, I think, is illegal in some places.
You could always tell them to quit being stupid and learn to use a damn phone, it's 2013 for crying out loud.

Create a user 911 named ALARM and set it to unconditional forward to 9911.
Make sure 9911 is a "Dial Emergency" phone number.

bribiesca,

Simple IF you are using analog trunks. Just go to the button programming for each user and make button 1 a LINE appearance instead of a CALL appearance.

You *should* then make the rest of your buttons line appearances for each line, followed by a CALL appearance. You must have at least one call appearance to make any internal calls.

*LOL* Lineappearances on IP Office, better kept your Panasonic then, saved you a lot of money.

We have overcome this by:

1. Put the semi-colon after the 11 and 911 code entries in the ARS table.
2. In addition to the 9N; short code, make short codes 911xN; and 9911xN; and point them somewhere else (a voicemail announcement or a help desk or give busy tone). This should intercept any calls where the caller has double-pressed the 1 or 9 and 1 key but dials more digits.

This method does not block valid calls to Emergency Services, but prevents a lot of erroneous ones. The phone system users still have to be trained that if they still dial 911 in error (i.e. freeze after they notice they dialed 911 and do not dial more digits) to stay on the line and inform the operator is was a misdial.

I ended up changing the short code. Made it a 7 which is far enough away from the 9.
