Odd "loopback" behavior on Small Community Network calls 2

Hi all,

Running five sites with IP Office 500 v2 and R6 software. Just installed last week and have setup small community networking between all sites in a meshed network environment. We use centralized voicemail at one location with queue announcements that play for callers who aren't answered right away by an agent.

When I put users across the SCN into a huntgroup, a strange situation occurs where the call appears on all phones in that huntgroup to see the phone ring on and off rapidly as if the caller were calling and hanging up about once a second. I think this only happens after a queue announcement has been played (hosted through the centralized voicemail at our main location).

I'm at a loss as to what to look at next. Two of the primary requirements for this new phone system were to have a meshed network setup making the overall system not dependent on any one location and to be able to have agents in multiple locations be in a hunt group.

Does anyone have any insight into what might be going on? Thanks!

I haven't been able to pinpoint the exact circumstances when this happens, so I'm not sure about the call state of all of the agents. I know that there are users not on a call in the huntgroup when this happens.

The queue announcements work through the central voicemail pro server. After 16 seconds, 1st announcement plays once, then sent to local MOH. Overflow is also set to 16 seconds to ring the overflow group which contains all of the initial users plus some more back office folk.

After 30 seconds no answer, voicemail pro reroutes to external answering service number.

Is that the detail you were looking for for announcement setup?

I'm attempting to get the situation to replicate. Thusfar I've tried adding agents from two locations to a hunt group and haven't seen it. I'm going to add users at a third location and see if that's the magic trigger.
 
This happens instantly once I add logged in users from more than two locations in a hunt group. I'm going through the monitor log now to paste the relevant data from the event.

If there are users from three locations that aren't logged into the hunt group, it doesn't happen. Only when they're logged in (check mark in the manager).
 
Here's an example. I've sanitized this slightly and I'm not sure if I'm grabbing everything, but this call appeared hundreds of times as described above.

Is there anybody with a call forward on no answer to the same group ?
What is the time set on the no answer timer ?
Is there any overflow group configured and what timer ?
Try building this with only one user.
Then if that is running fine then add another user until you have them all or stop when the problems occur.

This is actually what I was thinking... most of the users in this group have a forward no answer entry that rings back to the main hunt group.

No answer time is set to 20 seconds, it's a collective call waiting group, and overflow is set to 16 seconds.

I removed all of the forward no answer entries to see what that does as it's the only thing that references the group the calls get forwarded to (same group where they originated) and explains the large number of entries.

Shouldn't forward no answer not apply here though? From the docs:

For collective hunt groups, the idea of moving to the next member when the No Answer Time expires does not apply, instead calls will continue ringing unless overflow or voicemail is applied.
 
You have set no answer on 20 seconds and overflow 16 seconds.
Where does it overflow too ?

Can you use System status to see what happens ?

Overflows to an overflow group which contains members of the same original hunt group as well as additional staff.

System status just shows me the rapidly incrementing calls, however I haven't tested since removing the forward no answer from the hunt group members.
 
That is what i thought!

Change the no answer timer to 20 instead of 16.
Is it a collective group ? i think it is otherwise the no aswer timer and overflow timer are not set this way.

Yes, it's a collective group.

no answer time is set to 20 and overflow is set to 16, however the same users are members of the overflow group, so maybe the no answer time needs to be higher?
 
Yes, both primary hunt group and overflow are collective call waiting. Final destination is VM pro server where calls are routed to an external number.

I've upped the ring no answer time to 60 seconds (more than the voicemail time of 40) and it hasn't happened so far.

I'm continuing to monitor.

Is this a bug?
 
False alarm. Turns out I removed the remote users from the primary hunt group. As soon as I added them back in, it happened again.

I notice in monitor that the time is off by a few seconds on each system. Could it be a timing issue? Maybe they're not getting accurate NTP results?
 
My next course of action on this is to isolate to see if this is an issue with a meshed network configuration. I've taken the three affected sites and moved them to a star configuration to see if this continues to replicate tomorrow.

My gut tells me it is involving the centralized voicemail server, but I don't have much to base that on.
