Good Day,

I would like to know how many cpus run on this server. I ran the following -

[ddril00@phcgpz26 dan]$ uname -a
Linux xxxxxx 2.6.18-238.el5 #1 SMP Sun Dec 19 14:22:44 EST 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

[ddril00@phcgpz26 dan]$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep processor
processor : 0
processor : 1
processor : 2
processor : 3
processor : 4
processor : 5
processor : 6
processor : 7
processor : 8
processor : 9

processor : 15
processor : 16
processor : 17
processor : 18
processor : 19
processor : 20
processor : 21
processor : 22
processor : 23

[ddril00@phcgpz26 dan]$ cat /proc/cpuinfo | grep cpu | grep core
cpu cores : 6
cpu cores : 6
cpu cores : 6
cpu cores : 6

So, I'm not clear on the number of cpus on this server...

Any ideas?

Dan

Six. (quad core)

Assuming 6 x 4 still = 24.

Chris.

Thank you Chris. Can't we read it the other way around, meaning 24 (processors)/6 (cpu cores)= 4 (cpus)?

Regards,
Dan

Could well be.

What does

cat /proc/cpuinfo

tell you?

Chris.

Interesting, the SA said - "Two physical cpus with 6 cores, each which has 2 threads."

Can you find this information from the output of /proc/cpuinfo?

Regards,
Dan

You could also do

dmidecode --type 4

this will list out all the physicall processes, tell how many cores each has and how many of those cores are enabled and a bunch of other info.
See output below. Note that only 1 cpu is shown below. If you have multiple CPUs, the information for each will be shown.

Code:
# dmidecode --type 4
# dmidecode 2.11
SMBIOS 2.7 present.

Handle 0x0400, DMI type 4, 42 bytes

Thank you sbrews.

The dmidecode command doesn't seem to be available on this server.
