I have a AMD 3700+ with Abit AN8 32X mobo, Win XP Pro, I can't for the life of me get my mic to record sound. I've now tried 3 different mics, including a logitech that I bought brand new from a store, a AudioFX force feedback headset with mic, and a logitech gaming headset, none of them work as far as the mic is concerned yet I am able to get sound in all the headpieces.

I've tried Ventrilo and window's sound recorder. There isn't a mute button on my logitech mic so i know its not muted, nor is it muted in my sound properties on windows. However, I am not able to select the mic in the sound properties, theres a little check box under the volue that says "select" but i cannot put a check in there, nor any of the other boxes. Stero mix has a check in the select box, but i cannot uncheck it. I'm using the onboard sound which is realtek 97, audio driver version: 5.10.0.5930, Directx version: Directx 9.0c, Audio Controller: nVidia(0059) Audio Codec: ALC850.

I've tried pluggin my mic in all the slots in the back just to make sure they weren't accidently routed wrong, when i plug the mic into the mic slot my Abit Audio EQ program detects that the mic is there and is connected. SO i'm pretty much out of ideas. I've reset my computer, tried everything I can think of anyone able to shed some light?

So we know the front end is working. Is there a 'mic in' port on the front/top/side of your case or a breakout box on your vidcard? Sometimes these disable the rear input.

Many mainboards have jumper settings that determine which input gets recognized, the front or rear. Double-check all jumpers and look for that one in particular.

Best of luck!

Yes I have a Sagitta case, and it does have a lineout and mic ports in the front but i've never gotten them to work. I'll try the mic in the front tho.

I have a BFG 7900GTX video card, and no breakout box that i know of.

If you've audio connections on the front of the case as well as the back, it could be that the cabling for the front sockets has been incorrectly connected. I suggest you make a careful note of those existing front connections, then disconnect them from the motherboard.

Now go put a jumper on pins 5 and 6, and another one on pins 9 and 10, on that FP-AUDIO1 motherboard header.

Connect your speakers to the REAR case connector, and now try your microphone in the REAR case socket.

I got hte problem fixed, what it was is that in the volume control "playback" properties there is a mic slider that was hidden, and that was the mic that was muted and those why i didnt get any sound, its confusing because i had the mic unmuted in the "recording" section. So that was all it was....thanks for the help.
