I'm not sure if this is the right place but it's as close as i can get.

What do you call something that you give or send to someone - seemingly for no apparent reason - but really it's a sweetener so you can get something back from them sometime in the future?

I.e. they will be obliged to give you something because you gave them something before.

MCP = "Male Chauvinist Pig".

BTW, if there is ever a TLA, FLA, or SLA (or even ELA) that you do not understand, there is a great web-site you can surf to for translation:

I like ETLAs, personally.

And if I were male chauvinist, which I'm not, I think I'd opt to be the MCM or MCL or MCSC or MCF type. Or something besides P. (Male chauvinist marmot, male chauvinist leopard, male chauvinist sea cucumber, male chauvinist ferret.)

I think "male chauvinist sea cucumber" is pretty accurate. Pigs are, after all, rather intelligent.

What makes you thing that sea cucumbers are not intelligent?

Good Luck

The size of their brain for one. The fact that they are invertebrates for another. (And the fact they part of their name is "cucumber" doesnt' help their image any.)

Of course, they may have a different KIND of intelligence, in which case, I just don't care.

SantaMufasa, just because someone else misspells research doesn't mean that you have to, also. And where do the L and the A come from, anyway? [tongue]

Actually, the entire citation (including "Reseach" (sic)) came directly from a copy-and-paste from Not being literate in Finnish, I can only presume that the "LA" derives from "...Tutkimuslaitos...". Further, I presume that "Reseach" derives from the British phonetic pronunciation, since Amuricun's pronounce the missing second "r". [smile]

I knew that you copied and pasted, I found it there, too. It's no excuse!!!

And yes I saw the LA in laitos, but it's weak, thus my question. [smile]

Hell, Doc, if I knew the difference between a post and a thread my fences wouldn't keep falling down and don't get me started on how much easier sewing would be...!

Sowing seeds of 'kindness'.

Tony,

Great description which got me thinking on the positive side rather than the negative connotations of "bribe". How about a Golden-Rule Gift, i.e., "doing unto others as you would have them do unto you"?

Hi Dave,

Absolutely!! Much easier to say, too!

That reminds me of the film "Pay It Forward" - ever seen it?

Tony
