I have XP Professional SP1 with Norton AV Corporate running.
I cannot launch NAV to run LiveUpdate. When I lauch from programs, the Norton screen will flash momentarily and then disapper. On bootup the sys tray shield will appear and then dis-appear. I cannot access Symantec's website and when going to Trend Micro get through about 89% download before failing.
I have run in safe mode with networking but
cannot dial out to the Internet.
Any ideas on what disabled my NAV and how I can rid my PC of virus or spyware that caused problem would be a great help.

Try typing in the ip address in your browser. 64.239.7.84 Trend; symantec 206.204.52.6
Can you run a virus scan in safemode?

It is very likely you have a virus at this point. It is what would be considered a NAV killer. One very popular one is Klez. Since you are running XP pro you should be able to either boot into safe mode with networking and run an online scan or run the Norton software in safe mode. Since Live update is only a weekly update I would suggest downloading the daily update, running it and then doing a full system scan
