We are using the Avaya docs to connect these phones to our IP Office running the latest release of version 7.
The phones will not connect to the IP Office comes up SI Server time out.
The doc is so unclear and the phones menu and behaviour doesn’t match what’s going on in the 1200 and 1100 phones. The manual talks about option 9 in the menu to program the phone but there is no option 9 in the menu.
Has anyone done this and found the trick we have got them to upgrade but that is all so far.

Do they have the sip firmware on the phones? Have you configured the .cfg files for the proper phone model?

These are a pain to get converted from unistim to SIP, but once you've done that the rest is in the 11xxsettings.txt file and the 1140sip.cfg files.

Also make sure you have the file server type set to memory card if you want button labels to work.

biv343,

I just got a couple 1230's working, but it always drove me nuts. The functionality of the phone on the IP Office just feels like something isn't quite right.

Have you seen this too?

Yes, but they will be a lot better in release 8. They still won't be as good as a native Avaya IP set, but they will be close.

I've converted about hundred of them so far to SIP. The trick is to get them first updated to lastest UNISTIM . Then it is smooth sailing if you just manually give it an IP address and point the Prov = IPO address and protocol as TFTP .

Also once you download the SIP firmware, make sure you point the phones to the IPO IP address not to the TFTP/VM server.

Going back from SIP to Unistim is a pain but it does work too .

Ok thinks are still not clear

1. What are we supposed to be running Unistim or SIP?
2. Nowhere does it say to modify the cfg or txt file in the avaya methord 1,2,3,4. Do we need to modify these?

3. The phone comes up S1 Time out no where in the manual does it say S1 is that the call server?

Its asking for Prov: what is this?

At this stage the phone is coming up with 06XXC7M which the manual says is unistim is this correct? It says AVAYA on boot which makes me think its upgraded correctly.

Crashtest1000, did you use techbulletin 127 for this?
This techbully explains how to do it.
Even i got it working after a while and i never saw one before.

BAZINGA!

I'm not insane, my mother had me tested!

Thanks tlpeter needed a bit of an explination of what we were doing.

Looks like the key thing is to modify the cfg file.

[cheers]

Once you have done it then it seems a bit easier.
To be honest, i do not like them at all.
I would only use then when a customer already has these phones.
