I am trying to link two locations together with VoIP gateways. One location is using Nortel Norstar MICS and the other is a Partner ACS system. We had some spare loop start trunks so I am using those, in conjunction with a MultiVoIP MVP410.

I have configured the VoIP system and all of that works perfectly! Dialing in and out of both locations works. For now the only problem is that the Nortel system only works if I have the lines set on auto-attendant. I would prefer callers to get an internal dial tone, where they can then call internal sets.

After setting the lines to Auto-Answer with and without DISA I get the appropriate dial-tone. Everything seems to work perfectly, except I cannot dial internal sets. Everytime I enter our reception DN, 221 or any other set DN I get a fast busy tone and then the line hangs up. I can dial line pool codes perfectly, and make external calls, but I cannot reach any internal DNs.

Try going to the second inc. button to call internally....should work

The problem isn't that internal sets can't call other internal sets.

The problem is that when dialing into the system remotely I cannot call internal sets.

I think you will need a service cartridge to have DTMF receivers. The AA handles all that if you use the VM. CICS has receivers built in, MICS does not.

If you have an E&M card it can also provide DTMF Receivers (never done this myself but the book is rather sprcific) and set the answer mode to Auto with DISA N (Disa Y would be looking for a COS Password) you should be good to go. you might need target lines for each extension.

I've done this with MICS and the E&M card was needed to provide the DTMF receivers. It might be possible to do with an analog DID card. Not tried that one though.

I do have two E&M cards, purchased and installed specifically for this project.

The problem is that once I dial in, hear the dial tone, enter the COS password and dial an extension, say 221, the system will not connect me with that set.

Maybe I am dialing it wrong, is there some other way I should be dialing the internal extensions?

Build a Target Line with Extension 221 as rec digits. Then assign that line to the phone.

Agree with hawks, you have to have a corresponding received number in a target line for every number on your system that you want to use.

you say that when you dial the extension the call does not go thru. what are your indications, busy, fast busy, etc.

have you tried hooking up a butt set to the incoming grunk and listening to the digits that are coming in, or dialing into your system from the butt set after you ring the trunk?
