Hi all,

We are planning a migration in one of our offices from a Norstar to a cisco SRST remote site that will be tied to our office via a MPLS circuit. We will be continuing to route calls over the PSTN. We are planning on moving the RJ45 connection that is currently plugged into the Norstar cabinet to our VOIP router. My question is, if we have to roll back will it be as simple as returning the connection to the Norstar cabinet, or is a graceful shut down required? What is involved in powering down the norstar?

Any guidance or advice would be great.
Thanks.

You could simply pull the plug, or go to maintenance, module status adn disable the KSU or any expansion module

Hi Sam,

So if the worst should happen and I need to reconnect the old norstar system it would be as simple as reconnecting the rj45 for the PRI and powering the norstar back up, correct?

yes. However if the PRI circuit is out of service for some time, there is a chance the the carrier will disable to prevent further alarms in the Central Office. You may need to contact them if the PRI does not return into service and ask that the bring the circuit back up (enable it).

Hi trying2help,

I will most likely reach out to the carrier to let them know in advance so that I have a sound fall back plan.

Thanks for the input.

Before you shutdown the Norstar, ask yourself if you have a good system backup ? if not beg/borrow a FASTRAD and NRU to do it first .

It would be bad if the internal "battery" does not hold your N* configuration after a powerdown. Losing your T1 keycode and reprogamm all the target lines are not fun !

My condolences!

What level of software do you have?
Powering down might loose programming if old....however there should be no issues with the CISCO as long as the TELCO has been told to provision the PRI to it's specs or vice versa.

I am in the process of matching up the info from bell canada with the router config. I am concerned about the Norstar but I'm not clear on whether or not I should power it down. I think I will just move the RJ45 connection from the norstar to the router. If we run into a problem I will initiate the fall back plan and get the vendor involved. Other than the digits passed do you know what needs to be set up on the router to have the circuit talk to it?
