Norstar/Meridian Startalk/AA issues

We have a Norstar/Meridian phone system with Startalk. I can't seem to find a way to change how the auxiliary ringer works. It rings fine when calls to an external line comes in, which is great.

However, whenever we transfer a call to an extension and join it before the person answers, or when someone dials a persons extension in startalk/AA and the system rings the extension, it also rings the auxiliary ringer.

We do not want the aux ringer ringing when AA transfers a call like that.

Is there any way around this?

Thank you!

I tried messing around with that option. When set to yes, a internal intercom to another extension will cause the aux ringer to go off when that extension rings. Setting that option to No, does not affect when the AA transfers to an extension. The aux ringer rings anyway. Our system is set up a little different and I have to change that for each extension under capibilites. We don't have a Terminal&Sets option in programming.

We don't have any service modes active at all. I verified that everything for them was turned off.

The only option that is currently "available" is a manual switch by the KSU that is labeled Day & Night mode. While in "night" mode the Aux Ringer rings when any lines come in on top of transferring an external line to an extension and hanging up without "joining" it or when the AA transfers a call. When in "day" mode, the Aux ringer doesn't ring at all, even though the External Lines have Aux Ringer enabled. I wonder if it is a manual cut off for the aux ringer.

We also have 2 intercom type speakers in the ceiling that buzz with a call on a external line or the two transfer types regardless of how the switch by the KSU is flipped.

I am really confused. I would love to have the AA answer all calls and let people punch in an extension # but when it transfers it not only rings the extension it sets off the "intercom" speakers and aux ringer.

I have searched for a few hours and can't seem to find what is going on.

Service Modes is where you program Night, Lunch etc so its the same thing.
In there is where you can tell what exts to ring and also if the Aux should ring.

Aux ring settings can be found in:
-Service Modes
-Hunt Groups
-Lines
-Sets

Okay. Where is the option to turn off the auxiliary ringer when the AA transfers to an extension? The Auxiliary ringer option for "sets" turns it on and off when you intercom/internal dial an extension, not when the AA transfers.

Okay, I played with it and found some answers. It clicked that when the AA transfers the call to an extension, it was then ringing from an external line, thus the auxiliary ringer was ringing also. The 3 external lines were set to aux ring. If I disable the aux ringing on external lines that sets everything up the way we want with one exception.

Now there is another situation we want to satisfy. If someone wants to be transferred to the receptionist, or press "0", we want the call to ring in with the Aux ringer ON and allow anyone to pick up the call, not just the receptionist.

Is there any way for that to be done? You guys have been a great help! Thanks so much!

Okay, that solves the ringing.

Can I change a setting for when the system transfers to the receptionist, anyone can pick up the line and not just the receptionist? Normally, anyone would be able to pick up the phone and press the line that was ringing, but if it transfers to the receptionist, I get a denied when I try from another extension.

The receptionist is only part time so when she isn't here we expect our office employees to grab the ringing phone.

Thanks!

In Capabilities make sure all sets needed are in same pickup group #.
Then use Directed Pickup F76 from any of those sets in that pickup group.
You could use Group Pickup F75 but risk answering another sets call.

So I would have to program a feature key for that and have everyone know that is what you need to press to pick up the call?

Is that the only way? I don't want to make everyone learn a "new" way to answer the phone. If that is the only way I'll go with it, I just know some people don't like change haha.

Thank you for all your help! It's greatly appreciated! :)

Or, is there a way to instead of 0 transferring to the operator, can we program 0 to transfer to the aux ringer and come in normal so anyone can pick up the flashing line? That would be perfect if we could.

-If you have old software (which I suspect)

-Add an Answer Key to everyones phone for X221 (reception).
Make sure reception Call Forward No Answer to vmail ring count is lesser than the others.
-Con....internal calls to 221 will ring all sets.

or to avoid the internal call issue:
Pick an unused DN/Port on the system
Tell AA/Table/ATDNT to be the new DN.
Assign Answer DN key on all sets to the new DN

New software (if you see Terminals&Sets when you go into programming)

-Setup a Hunt Group
Add members
Make Ring Only
Tell AA/Table/ATDNT to be the DN of the Hunt Group.

Okay, I will look into that! Thanks so much curlycord! :)

Alright, the 222 DN wasn't being used. I assigned AA to be 222. I added an answer key to 2 extensions for the 222 DN however, when the system transfers, it only rings once before it says the operator was not available. The setting in sets for 222 is set to not forward at all, so I'm not sure how it would be timing out after 1 ring.

These are the settings right now. Atdt is set to available.

Atdt avail: Y
Business Open: Y
Answer Lines: Y
Atdt: 222

The two sets I have with Answer keys have Forward Busy None and Forward No Answer: 267 4 rings. (267 is VM)

Extension 222 is Forward Busy None and Forward No Answer 221 After 6 rings so it will hit the General Mailbox.
