Norstar Extension Swapping 1

Hi ,
We have the Norstar system installed and I've just been lumbered with the task of swapping two extensions. Has anyone done this before and if so can you tell my how I can do it.???

When you say swap,Hope you mean just fliping them a rround, Two whys you can go in and turn on set relocation and move the two. The other way is to go to the cross connect and move the two jumps on the ports... I dont like set relocation because that mess up your records,I always lable my blocks with port numb
ers, You cant changr them....

Thanks for replying, could you tell me the steps for the relocation, I've never used this system before and since I don't have any records there's very little to mess up, it also seems to be the easiest...

First log in, then go next until you get to system programing press show, then go next until you get to feature settings, then show, then go next seventeen times until you get to set relocation, then change to yes, then go move the phones, and go back in and turn set location off.
I'm not sure what software you have but this is for dr1.

So If i want to swap ext 5805 and 5810 do I do this on both phones at the same time? If I do this on one extension first will it overwrite the other extensions details?

Just unplug and move,Whenext comes up it will be the right one then plug in the next, If you do many dont do it all at once, it takes some time.

Move the cross connects. The set relocation is a poor way of moving ext and possibly will cause problems in the future.

I agree. Do the cross connects. It's the fastest, easiest way to get it done and you don't have to worry about corruption problems, or just plain mistakes in programming. When moving a lot of phones the software might make sense but remember it's a lot easier to correct a physical mistake in cross-connecting than to correct a software issue. Just write down the extension number and the jack number it is on and then the jack number where it is going.

the other reason not to use set relocation is if the phone system loses its data base from a power failure (or whatever), when it comes back on the mapping of phones to ports returnes its default and you'll have a mess on your hands of people having the wrong DN on their desk.
