I have an older Norstar modular 8x24 system with a Norstar door phone and DOC. It works perfectly from any digital phone.

We have an analog station card installed and have a cordless telphone on an analog DN. When we forward our main phone (221) to the cordless everything works except we can't get the door open. We connect fine, but when we enter 6 (the code to open the door) it doesn't do anything. It works from any MXXXX phone both with the code and the soft key.

Any idea what is wrong? I have checked everything in the programing and can't find what needs to be changed.

Thanks for any help.

Do you have to dial Feature 6 on your MXXXX series phones, or just 6 when you are on a door phone call?

Since it is on an ASM, you may need to do a switchhook flash + *6.

That's what I thought -- but it doesn't work either from the cordless and a standard 2500 set.

I have changed the length of the flash on the cordless and made sure it was sending DTMF tones.

It works every time from the M73xx phones both with the soft key and with the number 6.

We have tried Flash 6, Flash *6 and neither works.

Dial a M7310 from the cordless.
Press 6 on the cordless.
Do you hear the DTMF coming through the M7310?
If you do, try different numbers and make sure they sound different.

You could also try long tones (feat 808)- don’t know if it has an effect from ATA's

In the ATA FAQ's I see a reference to: *809 Tones On
but I am not familiar with it.

Thank you so much for the input.

I tested by to the M7310 as you suggested and I do hear different tones for different numbers, both from the cordless and from our standard 2500 in the lobby. So I believe I am sending DTMF correctly. "Tones on" is the default for an ASM device but I tested that as well and as long as I hold the number down I have tone.

I tried turning long tones on and it still didn't open the door. With it on or off.

What could be the difference in the signal from the M7310 and the 2500 once it is connected? I have a voice path to the door and can talk with the people. If I disconnect from the cordless and go to a M7310 call the door extension and press 6 (or the open soft key) it opens.

Answer: The Norstar Doorphone and Door Opening Controller are digital devices which use internal Norstar digital signaling therefore they do not work with analog phones as analog phones use DTMF signaling. Nortel Developer Partner Algo makes an analog version of the Doorphone and Door Opening Controller and although not marketed as a Norstar Product, they will work.

I guess that could be it. I forgot to mention in my post that I have never tried to use a DoorPhone from an ATA. I was hoping someone let us know if it is even possible, which according to bdalida, it is not.

Thanks to every one very much -- I guess without a hardware change I can't get there from here.
