I've got a client with an 8x24 that currently has 7 incoming business lines and 13 phones attached. The customer is growing their business and needs to add 7 more incoming lines and up to 10 additional phones. As I am to understand it, I will need to get a 12x0 copper trunk module and a 2 port copper expansion card. This would yield up to 20 incoming lines.

Is this all that I need to do or am I missing something? I don't know the release of software off the top of my head, but would that make a difference?

Also, the customer has a Startalk voicemail system with four ports. They are looking to double the number of VM ports to 8. Can I do this with the Startalk or would I need to look at a different solution for voicemail?

Any help would be appreciated.

To go with the trunk mod you will need trunk cards. Each card has 4 ports. You can put a total of three cards in a trk mod. Is the startalk 4 port 8 channel or 2 port 4 channel?

Techtel - not sure I'm understanding. Do I need something in addition to the 12x0 and the 2 port copper expansion card or am I barking up the wrong tree and will need to go with the 4-port trunk mods as you stated? Also, to answer the question about the Startalk, I believe that it is a 2 port 4 channel. I will follow up when I find out for sure about the Startalk ports.

Thanks,

PC

The 12x0 TRK MOD holds 3 4x0 TRK CARDS for a total of
12x0. If you need 20 lines total then you would have to get a TRK MOD with 3 TRK CARDS to put in it plus the EXP.
CARD to hook it to the 8x24.

What is the part # of the startalk?

Gotcha. Thanks for clearing that up. Still haven't had a chance to get back to see what release of sofware they've got but will that make a difference? Also, any help with the voicemail?

Thanks again for the good information.

You said you had a 8 port mail what is it NAM, call pilot.star talk flash is only one or two ports giving you 2 or 4 chanels. If only two channel upgrade. will not require licence only card.

drdebug - It's a 2-port/4-channel StarTalk that's in there right now. The customer is looking to double the number of channels to 8. Can the StarTalk be upgraded from the current 2-port/4-channel configuration to 4-port/8-channel? What is the capacity of the StarTalk (or should that have been my first question)?

Sorry about the confusion of ports/channels in my first post. I'll try and refer to them correctly in the future.

Thanks again everyone.

Possible 4 channel voice mails:
Star Talk Flash is a max of 4 channels.
Star Talks 385's and 550's (NT8B-74) can go to 8 channels. Star Talk 165 and 330 (NT8B-73) cannot be expanded. Norstar Application Module (NAM) can grow to 16 channels.

All are compatible with the older 824 modular system

Sorry I'm in error. Its a fiber NAM that can go to 16 channels. Older copper NAM (Norstar PLus) can grow to a max of 8 channels.

As you can see there are many possiblities. So you don't know for sure which voice mail you have... hire a vendor.
