Hello,
I have a digital phone that I need to roll out to a desk but the problem is that when I plug it in I just get the following behaviour.
The message waiting lamp flashes red and then the display flashes on but then disappears.
Does anyone know what would be causing this behaviour? We can't seem to find a single port that works 'properly'.

thanks

Gareth

It's worth checking that the polarity is correct for some of the Nortel digital phones. Also check that you have programmed up CLS = CNDA for the display to work.

All the best

If it's working, then leave it alone!.

You might also verify that it is plugged into a digital port and not an analog.

Also - is TN enabled?

Is TN programmed?

Can you IDU TN when phone plugged in?

Hello and thanks for the replies. It turns out I have more questions than before :S

firebirdscrambler, I don't know how I would check the polarity but I have tested this with a phone that works on another desk. The phone I tried was a 3903. The other phone we have is a 3909.
I believe the TN would have CNDA but when I just went in to check I got a bit stuck :( Now I admit I'm no expert but I am also okay on the general stuff.
When I go into LD 20 for this phone. The DN is 5233 so to find the TN I do type =DNB then it tells me the TN is 112 0 1 12. When I then try to prt the information about the TN to check i get the following.

TN is valid but unable to match type.

Severity: Info

I'm confused as the dnb is telling me tha the phone is a 3903v but when I try to view that it says it's the wrong type. This means I can't get any further with this part of the info.

Johnthephoneguy that is a very good point but the problem we have is that we are literally at the patch panels and plugging it into the ports going to the PBX as the patching is a nightmare. on some ports we get nothing on other ports we get this behaviour. Also we are not based at this office and only get there once a week so I am limited as to testing :(

Reusser, I presume this is a good suggestion although I don't actually understand it yet. My main knowledge is with the IP handsets and they don't seem to disable themselves. I have run the enls command on the cards in ld 32 to enable them but that doesn't change anything. Is what you're suggesting different?
ah, just read a post on this site about IDU TN
the results are

You are using Virtual office and the Host set is what we need to look at
12 = UNIT 12 = IDLE (3903V VTN= 000 1 02 09 )**

0.1.2.9 would be the host set.

ld 32
.stat 0 1 2 9 <-- to verifiy it is enabled

.idu 0 1 2 9 <-- to see if it sees the phone

.fwvu 0 1 2 9 <-- to check firmware

also check port with another 3903.

Tell us also what exactly is not working - no display. dialtone, can you receive and make calls?

if only problem is Display, if you plug in another 3903 does display work?
