I've landed a job as an IT support analyst for a multinational company. I've been building PC's and experimenting with hardware for about 3 years. I got this job as a secondment and have been made permanent.
I re-image PC's and install software. During our team meetings, my team mates discuss issues at a level beyond my scope of knowledge. Some of the topics discussed are:
Telecom issues
Win2k servers
Routers

Sometimes I feel left out when I cant make a contribution. Where can I start? I'm eager to learn new things.

Thanks in advance for your help

I understand what you are going through, as for a long time I was doing basic things out of the scope of my knowledge.

For the specific areas you mention, you may want to look at postings in relevant forums here and reading FAQ's. Obviously, however, getting access to real kit is the best way to try things out and experiment. Hopefully they will have a test lab somewhere which you could use without affecting the real network.

Win2K server is the server version of Windows 2000. It is used for file and print servicing, running web, database and other applications such as MS Exchange, Lotus Notes etc.

A router is a device for connecting two networks together, and "routing" packets of data, essentially working as an electronic traffic policeman.

Telecoms is a generic term for telecommunications, and it can encompass anything ranging from getting two computers to communicate over a LAN through to multinational IT support systems.

The right sort of attitude obviously helps a great deal and you have this, which is good. At these meetings, try asking your colleagues questions if you don't know what they are talking about; if they ask why, say you would like to learn more and over time progress from your current post.
