Hey everyone. I need some help with some issues I'm having with some calls being forwarded when i need them not to be.

Right now, i need called not to be able to leave any messages on a particular line. If the caller simply hangs on for another few seconds that person is forwarded to the main line.. Is there a way to cut off the number of messages that a mail box can receive/or to prevent calls from being forwarded on?

Any help with this would be great!

1. Have you access to Element Manager software

If So then open it and log in

Goto configuration-sets-active sets
Select extn and look at the tabs on the right hand side
Look for "forward" and remove the number, also same for busy.

you will see most off these numbers will be the same (typically for forwarding to voicemail)

replace the forward number you have removed with your switchboard extn number
this way the call will go to reception.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the help.

Here is a further explanation of the issue.

(this is for a social services org so its a call in line)

Caller calls outside line which rings handset -> handset goes to voicemail when not answered -> Message plays. -> "Nortel voice that says messages are not being accepted -> if the caller hangs on for about 10 more seconds the calls are forwarded to the receptionist. Is there a way to prevent that last step? To simply disconnect the call?

Sounds as if the extn has alt greeting on with the option not to leave a message.

Not sure why your caller would hang on.

Record the message stating they can't leave a message and call back later,

You could also turn off DRT to prime which usually prevents calls being redirected to the reception.

Sounds to me like he's talking about the General Delievery Mailbox.

Cccvait- Are you talking about when someone calls your main number and just sits on hold and then is transferred to a mailbox? If so that is indeed your GD mailbox and yes you can turn it off if you want.

If you aren't talking about GD then please just ignore my response.

Maybe you need to deal with this "Nortel voice that says messages are not being accepted"

I dont recall that greeting.

Sorry, its the alternate greetings voice that when you choose not to accept messages it says "messages are not being accepted"

This is an extension. Not the general delivery or the main number. If the caller hangs on through the alternate greeting, where the can't leave a message, they inevitably end up being forwarded to the general delivery/main line.

just record your message stating they cant leave a message at the end.
Then keep silent for about 5 to 10 seconds repeat the recording stating they cant leave a message.
do this as many times you feel necessary .then save the recording.

By this stage the cuustomer will hear the greeting they cant leave a message before the Nortel voice comes on.
By this stage you will think they GOT THE MESSAGE.....HaHa
