I continue to get a blank page that just keeps coming out on my report even when I have checked everything!

I have a page header
details a
details b
details c
details d
page footer

All the details section each have their own subreport. I have made sure that I have checked off the option to suppress the subreport if there is no data. I noticed I ran a report which in the db had no records for details d. And it still prints a blank page with a page header (the time) and a page footer (the page number). The middle of that page has absolutely NO information!!!!
I do not have a check mark in trhe section expert for new page after!!!!

Can someone please help me out...
Thanks,
Jon

For some reason my old handle would not let me post.
So I had to get a new handle...Im not sure why???I contacted Tek-Tips management with about 10 emails with no answer.

I am mission2java. GMcNamara I will try what you said on thursday since I had a death in the family and have not been back to work. However I noticed in Crystal 9.5 there is no format section? And where do I type that onlastrecord ???

Thanks Jon

Right click on the report footer, select Section Expert (formerly Format Section in 8.5), click the x-2 button to the right of the 'Suppress (No Drill Down)' check box. The formula editor will open. Enter Onlastrecord; here as you would any other formula.
Make sure you are doing this to the report footer in the main report.

Hi GmCnamara,

Thanks for being very patient with me. I will be back at work on thursday to try all of this out. Hopefully this is the problem :).

Again thanks,
Jon

One thing I do remember though...

How would this work because my report footer is already suppressed? Meaning in crystal its greyed out...so should I still try this ?

Thanks,
Jon

No Luck :(.

I get 14 pages in crystal reports...and 15 in my application viewer. The last page just showing the page header and page footer. As I said my report footer was suppressed so I dont think the OnLastRecord helped much.

I just cannot seem to understand where this last page is coming from!

This one will be going down in history...

I went through the whole report everything looks ok.
Mysteriously the 15th page shows up..no matter what.

I did notice something just now...
The report is composed of sub reports. Previously I had no records in the db for subreport #4. So I think that is where the blank page is coming from. Right when I entered a record I got pages 1-15 with 15 being this newly added record.

But still...shouldnt it suppress if there are no records? How come crystal shows 14 but the viewer shows 15!!! Completly WEIRD!!!

GMCNamara et al :)

Any other ideas / suggestions? Is this one just something that is so strange there is no fix to it :-d.

Thanks / Jon

Please if someone would....I am still having this issue.
I have done what everyone has recommended...I am still getting one additional sheet in my report.

Please I have to clear this issue, and nothing is working.

Jon

Double check that you have ALL of your subreports set to suppress if they are empty (From the main report, right click on the subreport and select Format Subreport. On the Subreport tab, select Suppress Blank Subreport. Then in the section that contains the subreport, select Suppress Blank Section.)

With that complete, right click on the page footer section, select Format Section. Click the x-2 button to the right of the Suppress (No Drill Down) button. In the formula editor, enter OnLastRecord;. Repeat this for the page header. Let us know what happens. This is not the solution but it may help us to determine what is going on.

GMcNamara,

It gets rid of the page header and footer throughout the whole report. BTW the first part I already had (regarding the suppressing of sections and sub reports.). The number of pages again is CORRECT in crystal, but it is INCORRECT in my VB Viewer...

Jon

The page header and footer are suppressed on all pages? That doesn't sound right.

Double check this part:
Right click on the page footer section, select Format Section. Click the x-2 button to the right of the Suppress (No Drill Down) button. When the formula editor appears, enter OnLastRecord;. Repeat this for the page header.

I did that. In the page header I right clicked on it selected section expert (since this is crystal 9) i clicked the x+2 button. For suppress drill down I entered OnLastRecord;

I did this for the page footer as well...

On all the pages there is no header or footer. The header is just a title page for each sheet. THe footer displays the page number and date.

Jon

OK, that is weird. I tested this on a report of mine. I entered the conditional suppression for the page header and page footer. When I run the report, I get a header and footer on all pages except the last.

Did you try this through Crystal and your viewer?

Change onlastrecord; to not onlastrecord;. What do you have now?

Not onLastRecord gives me the header and footer on EVERY page. This is on both crystal and my viewer. Crystal again shows the correct number of pages (13) my viewer shows 14 pages, with the last page showing the header and footer of the page but NOTHING else...empty middle.

Jon

I am baffled as to why the header and footer ALWAYS display when the conditional suppression is not Onlastrecord and the header and footer NEVER display when the conditional suppression is Onlastrecord. It is like the main report is not reading records at all. Can you post the SQL for the main report?

From the menu database->show SQL Query

I have

SELECT "vwProposals"."QuoteNumber", "vwProposals"."RevLevel", "vwProposals"."ProposalID", "vwProposals"."CustomerName", "vwProposals"."SiteName", "vwProposals"."DueDate", "vwProposals"."SystemDescription"
FROM "SPI"."dbo"."vwProposals" "vwProposals"
ORDER BY "vwProposals"."ProposalID"

Just as a test, what happens when you export if you suppress the page header, the page footer, and the report footer?

As a second test, what happens if you increase or decrease the margins in CR so that the viewable report is smaller or larger on the page? (Not sure this would have any impact at all, but maybe worth a try.)
