Have a new IP500 4.1 system setting up for a install to happen soon. Plugged in the 5420 set - received the firmware update fine. Plug in a 5410 - TFTP window shows sending file - phone shows:

"Phone Features Not Available"

"Waiting for Firmware Download"

"Waiting..."

Then it will flash where "Waiting for Firmware Download"
"Firmware Update in Progress" only for a second

Any ideas?

try using a different TFTP server. i have seen the manager have issues and also try a different port.

More Info:
Other new phones (5410) sets out of the box - plugging in and they work - they are already new at 5.00 no upgrade needed - this particular phone that I am having trouble with did the same thing on our own system when I plugged it in there (4.0). I will try to put it in the lab on a system that requires 2.00 firmware for 5410 sets and see if it will downgrade - possible a bad set.

2 x new 5410's delivered to a client with 60+ already installed on 4.0(5)

Same problem as you.

Tried connecting on our system on 4.1 still not connecting

Tried on a 3.2 406DS with same results

Have seen entries on the Forum pointing at a BAD BATCH of 5410's

I have returned to Distribution for testing & replacement

I supplied my client with a 4 month old 5410 i had in our demo stock and it worked.

had heard of following issue:e.g connect to ds port 1, the phone did the upgrade, after that take another phone, doesn´t upgrade and it works with the old sw. anyway external tftp should be used, manager doesn´t upgrade ds phones properly.

i know your problem is corrupt file but also remember manager tftp will only support 5 tftp requests at any time.

6th and subsequent won't work.

solarwinds tftp free server supports multiple and runs as a service

Not that this will help here but i use MV_IPTEL from avaya and it works great. i use it for digital and IP installs and when doing IP phones it uses HTTP and they fly thru the upgrades. it will do TFTP, HTTP, HTTPS and i think FTP.

Also if you upgrade a phone on port 1 then upgrade the next phone on port 2
Untill you reboot the unit it remembers that it upgraded a phone and will not upgrade another phone !!!

Chalked it up to a bad phone - didn't have any troubles with 14 other 5410 sets.

Used both Manager and a different TFTP server without any troubles except for the 1 phone.

I believe this is a known bug with 5410 phones that have been created after Oct 07; it happens when you connect the phones to a system that is running an older version of the binaries (like 4.0.5). It wont happen if you connect the phones using a newer version like 4.1.

Avaya are in the process of finding a way to get phones that have been plugged into the older systems to behave like normal again. I believe a tech bulletin is being written up and will be released shortly.

I've had it happen to a customer of mine who had three 5410's. He plugged in two phones and got the "Phone Features Not Available" message. He upgraded the system to 4.1 and the phones still showed the error; but when he plugged in the third phone (after the system had 4.1) it booted up fine.

The 5 TFTP sessions does not affect 5410 upgrades. The phones get upgrade from the unit that got the upgrade from the TFTP server. If the 5410's got the upgrade from the TFTP, how come the TFTP log only shows the files accessed once?

What I would do on new installs until older stock is sold, I would close Manager and plug in a phone, I would think if it has the correct software, it wont try to upgrade. If it con=mes up and the screen looks right move on.

see here

there is a problem with the handset itself in that when you try and force an upgrade/downgrade it will break the handset

Phones manuafactured before Oct 07 are ok, after is not ok.

Once the phone has attempted a upgrade it is knacked.
