Installing a new ip 5610 phone. I have VPN setup pix 5505 point to point. TFTP server 192.168.0.10 IP Phone (56xx) set to 0.0.0.0 The phone starts downloading all necessary software after downloadind i10d01a8_016.bin the phone ask for an ext. number and get stuck at Discover 192.168.0.10

this world is new and i'm seeing red...

0.0.0.0 is not a valid IP address and so can't communicate with the 192.168.0.10 address.

From that remote network can you ping the address of the IP Office?

ok so when you set up your phone the call server will be 192.168.0.5. then the file server will be 192.168.0.10.

before you even start on the phone, make sure your routing is good.

Can you ping from the remote subnet to the IP Office? can you ping from the local subnet to the remote subnet. Can you ping from teh local subnet to the remote subnet using the IP office as a gateway?

Shortcut - I'd guess that you haven't set a route in the IP office for the remote subnet.

Take Care

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

No.

Yes

(I am remote - how do I do that)

No!

Ok

Can you ping from the remote subnet to the IP Office? No
If you can't do that, it isnt going to work. Sort this out first.
Try a traceroute, which may show where your routing is wrong. Does this remote subnet have 1 router or more?

Try a trace route, and also make sure you have an IP Route built into the IP Office

Route 1:
IP Address: 192.168.0.0
Subnet: 255.255.255.0 (assuming /24 network)
Gateway: 0.0.0.0
Interface: LAN1

Route 2:
IP Address: 0.0.0.0
Subnet: 0.0.0.0
Gateway: Whatever your G/W is on the IPO's network
Interface: LAN1

Just to set up a default route so the IPO knows to look at the right gateway and over the VPN.

trace route out to 0.5 doesnt go but 1 hop to 0.10

do you have an IP route in the IPO to go to your default gateway
0.0.0.0
255.255.255.0
default gateway

then all unknown stuff should go there and you should be able to ping it

if that doesn't work then use 192.168.0.0 instead of the 0.0.0.0

If you can't be good, be good at it!

sorry guys but this is ridiculous. Basic routing set up on IPO is standard network knowledge. Where do you draw the line. F1 if you ask me.

TheTaker, can you tell me where the f1 button is :)

But if you do not know the product i can understand this situation to be honest

Ha ha Peter, I know, there is people out there who ask that question, they keep looking for a button named function!

It just frustrates me sometimes the lack of "trying to understand" seen on this forum. Don't mind me, Im having an off day, and it's only 9am.
