this world is new and i'm seeing red...

TT i think mostly its IT guys, so the phone system sort of falls into their remit. they are asked by their boss to change something, and they can spend 2hrs reading the docs, or get an answer in minutes here.

they dont need the understanding that we do. it is frustrating, because it seems pretty lazy to me. if you learn the way things work then you know for next time.

nice example here

20 minutes and its sorted.

if you are still bummed out at 12 have a liquid lunch, always sorts me out ;)

arsene knows......

everything. apart from the importance of depth in a squad. and what a chequebook looks like......

i do agree that people hugely underestimate the importance of firmware level, as the way things work changes from release to release,

and i never know how "simple" to make things, you dont want to make out that people are stupid, but if you dont know the level of their knowledge then you dont know where to start asking questions.

maybe we should sticky a thread at the top of the forum.

"how to get a decent answer"

loved your example by the way!

Yea, there should be a "before you post" guideline, maybe even a simple test,
Q1: Do you know what you are doing?
Q2: Are you sure?
Q3: Are you really sure?
Q4: Have you done this or anything like this before?

If your answer is Yes to all of the above you may post...
If you answer No to any of the above then call in a local tech.

I'm pondering on the idea of a remote desktop type session to help the No people out, simple really, chargeable of course. Sizbut has me thinking about this place...

>sorry guys but this is ridiculous. Basic routing set up on IPO is standard network knowledge.

Thats why I butted out... cos I know nothing about routing [wink]

I have always wished that my computer would be as easy to use as my telephone.
My wish has come true. I no longer know how to use my telephone.

TT if you wanted something like that have a look at logmein rescue, its £500 a seat but pays for itself in a day or so.

have used teamviewer too but prefer logmein rescue.

its blindin, reboot and reconnect, no need for previously installed software, go to a website, pop in a pin and you are off. payment through paypal, easy peasy.

have used it Tom and now use NetViewer which is a step up, also records the whole thing as well as a voip conversation

We looked at Logmein and Teamviewer when we were deciding on the software to stick on our customers VM PCs to allow us to manage them remotely and opted for Teamviewer in the end and must say we are extremely impressed with it.

Best thing is the ability to transfer files from the remote PC to our PC - so we can leave traces running on the VM PC and then just copy them to us if we need them.

logmein does that
