Last year we switched from another switch to the IP Office. As with any change, there are always features that the users loved from the previous system. One of those, which really did come in handy, was the playing of a tone at the end of the ring sound (in the caller's handset) if someone extension you were calling was on the phone. It even worked when we were calling from outside the office to a DID on someone's handset.

We talked to our BP about this this, and they said to use the phone manager and check people's BLF, however not all users will have this readily available and it's just much faster to detect if someone you are calling is on the phone by that beep.

Is there another way to accomplish this, and how do we send feature requests to Avaya? I think this would be an excellent feature and wouldn't think it too difficult to implement.

So you are an end user ?
Call your BP and let them reprogram you ipoffice

No, I am not the end user, rather the IT director....not that it should make a difference here. I already mentioned that our BP told us to use the phone manager, and I am looking for an alternative.

An it director is an end user :)
You can not do feature request

This is an ipoffice and not the previous system
Playing a sound while the user is busy is not possible
It is ringing or busy i am afraid
A different possibility is announcements but you need voicemail pro

Well thanks for informing me that this is not the previous system as I was unaware of that. I am aware of what our voicemail pro can do, however that is not what I asked.

Traditionally end users are often referred to as people who actually use the system, rather than administer or program it. I am sure you feel better distinguishing yourself in that matter.

Admittedly I am new here, and if I am asking questions in a forum only permitted by a certain level of IP Office certification then I apologize.

cant we all just get along!

timanham, peter was not trying to make fun of you in any way. from our perspective (we are the business partner) you would still be considered an end user.

we get a lot of really easy questions that are answered in documentation and these questions can sometimes overload this forum. so i think peter was just trying to make it know that it cant be done unless you go the voicemail pro route... either that or peter woke up on the wrong side of the bed:)

I woke up at the right side of the bed :)
It is not possible, the only option is using announcements with a beep in it

just a hint to clarify the problem:
the expressions "Feature request" is used to get Avaya to put a new feature into the system, which means they have to get that to the developers and they make it happen. That's why tlpeter said that an enduser can't do a feature request, not to be difficult.
But I hate to say it the beep is not possible except like tlpeter said via the announcements and that is a workaround and not really what you want.

Thanks very much for your help. Since there are often things undocumented in various systems, I thought I'd ask people more expert than I.

Our BP said that others have requested a similar feature and said they've suggested it to Avaya, however they mentioned the more they get requests, the more likely they are to implement it..which is why I asked.
