I have a client who has an older Avaya IP Office system, Version 4.03, and they are looking to buy another system at a second location. Will the older IP office system be able to network with the new Avaya Ip Office system?
Actually if the old system does not have a VCM card then you MUST upgrade the old system as the IP400 VCM cards are not available anymore.
If it does have a IP400 VCM card then when uogradeing to a IP 500v2 you can attach the IP400 VCM card on a legacy card then you have VCM channels and for each channel you get 3 Avaya IP Endpoint licenses.
My advise is to upgrade the old system at any time.
This seems like the type of thing a qualified pre-sales support engineer would be able to answer...
However, to help, yes, gather as much info on the current system. Networking an older system is not supported with a new system (only 1 major rev difference supported) via SCN.
One of the biggest questions will be, how much money do they want to throw at this? It may end up being cheaper to replace their old system with a newer one anyhow. We do that quite often.
WAN connection is fractional T, taking the remaining channels probably like 12 channels for data but they are going to switch to cable internet
The other office has 3 lines and cable internet access. They plan on getting the new IP office system at this location and trying to use the current IP office system that is in the other location.
I have to ask, what is your experience with IP Office?
Seeing as it is "voicemail pro 2.1", that sounds like it may be an OOOOLD 403 system (maybe 406), which is well, not really supported anymore.
I honestly would replace that system with a new 500v2 and 2 combo cards. Get any licenses migrated. You could network them via T1, possibly, without any features.
You'll need a proper network setup between sites; vpn, mpls, etc. What do they have in place now for that?
I suspect as this is information format he customer it is not software version 4.0.3 but an IP 403 control unit.
I would also not be surprised to find it is running DT series handsets (2030's) & I doubt that it is equipped with a VCM
as much as I like the old handset a full upgrade is the only sensible option at this stage
