Hello,

We just recieved a 4000R PIII 650 and would like to upgrade to dual CPU. Does this server require a vrm with the second CPU or can we just install a second CPU?

Also does anyone know where we can get a cable for the keyboard, mouse, video that does not have to go thur a KVM box. We are using this as a stand alone server and have no need for a KVM box.

Any good site for info on this server?

Thanks

Does anyone know the part number of the cable that connects the video from one server to another? I have the 21P8574 cable but I have 4 4000Rs and I want to daisy chain them together and only use one port on my KVM switch.

Thanks

Is it just a cable? If so can somone work out the wiring pin-outs for it.

Thanks Rob.

I have had my 4000r Dual 750 for about a year now .. I made my break-out cable from some cheap adapters purchased at the local computer store. Female-2-Female PS2 connecters and a double female vga adapter and all worked fine. Running linux (RH 7.2) enjoying the box.

I picked up one of these 4000r for £60 not bad considering it actually works, was supplied with cpu and some memory and a console cable. i am however missing the rails and the 2 hard disk mounting brackets. It is model 5863-51y. Does anyone know where i can pick up these parts?

Thanks

Hrm.... I just picked up a Netfinity 4500R with a single 733Mhz P3 in it. The CPU looks like a standard SECC2 Slot 1 P-III 733EB CPU - aside from a possible VRM to add to the box, would just a standard Slot 1 CPU work in the 4500R?

Thanks!

as normal no beep codes with power and the far right led (looks like a box with a vertical line either side) my question is does anyone know where I can get the hardware docs, tried IBM just cant find them anywhere. Also if anyone has had the same problem please let me know.

Cheers
David.

How would one go about "building" a custom console adapter for the 4000R/VA Linux 1U servers? Is there an industry-standard name for the type of 37-pin connector that is used?

Guys, check out effeng.com and go to the blazer link.
These IBM's I have heard are oem'd Network Engines P7000 Blazers...
I have the NE branded version, two of them, and there are a few tricks to using them.
Get the pdf file.
Also, only issue I have is getting redhat 7.3 to run properly with the ct69000 video chipset.
Anyone else get around this issue???

Also supposedly the same as a VA Linux 1000 box....

Slot 1's 100 mhz fsb up to 800 max as per documentation...

Mrrrl - so that means you have a spare cable for your 4000R - Can I buy it from you please??

4000R Consul Cable - would anyone be willing to buy it the US (approx $20.00) and ship it to me in the UK - they want to charge me £100UKP here for it!!!!

Andy

We recently bought a Network Engines Web Engine server at
a dot-bomb auction. It has the funky CMBus connectors on the back
instead of the usual KVM connectors.

A search on Google led me to these postings, where I saw fooey's comment
about the IBM Netfitnity 4000r being OEM'ed Network Engines P7000 Blazers,
and mrrrl's note about the IBM adapter part number (except that the part
number and FRU number are reversed: the stickers on my adapter says
"FRU 21P8574" and "P/N 09N7179").

I went to then clicked on "Servers",
then clicked on "Shop by part number" in the left column,
then I entered the FRU number (21P8574) and clicked "Go".

The adapter costs US$17.50, plus US$13.50 shipping + handling.
You can pay with Visa, M/C etc.

Here are some pics of the size & shape of the connectors on the server
& on the adapter:
