Hello,
Can anyone tell me where I might find some good information regarding the DP1 for Windows exam?
There is no in depth training on it and the exam objectives posted on Veritas' website are pretty vague.

Thanks.

There is no in depth training on it

I don't know why you would say this. You can get in-depth training by;

-Having real-world experience and hands on
-Having read the Admin and User documents located on veritas.com
-Gone to some sort of class based training offered by Veritas.

My point exactly; there IS no in class training for this, AND there are no specific manuals that the exam objectives reference.
What I was asking was: Can anyone tell me what specifically I need to pass this exam? Of course, it's common knowledge that hands on experience is good but that wasn't my question at all.

Here is an example;

There is plenty of training classes for this, but real life experience is what is going to help you and reading all the Admin guides located @
The objectives seem pretty clear to me. Here is a summary

Percent of items, per section, in total item pool:
Section 1. Verify and Adjust Pre-Installation Environment..…………………….……….8%
Section 2. Perform Installation of the Data Protection Environment ………….…..…..11%
Section 3. Configure the Data Protection Environment ..........………………….……...26%
Section 4. Tailor NetBackup (advanced) ..................………..…………………….…....19%
Section 5. Validate Implementation and Make Adjustment for Data Protection ..…....19%
Section 6. Document and Maintain the Data Protection Implementation ........…….....16%

Thanks.
Should I be using the 5.1 manuals or the 5.0? The curriculum path says its for version 5.0 but in some of the descriptions I see references to 5.x.

There is not real diff between 5.0 and 5.1, mainly patches. I will state though, you MUST have real world experience and knowledge of the older products as well and state the most notable differences between them.

can i just ask what the point is in taking an exam for something you seem new to ?, surely it's the other way around, ie learn/use a product/products, and maybe then go for exams....

...or have i misinterpreted something.....

I somewhat agree. However, I work for a systems reseller and for us to be able to sell the product we must be certified. With the depth of products we sell and implement it is neither possible nor feasible to have real world experience with all of them.
There are a number of people I work with who are new to the product and have passed.
Thanks for your input.

Another reason why we as professionals get no respect in the field.

Just passed the exam with three days hands on and three full days of study.
I am by no means trying to seem arrogant, just wanted to let you know that it's possible to pass with little hands on experience.
I do have a lot of technical consulting experience (SAN), which probably helped.

So can you answer your original post?

Just because the VERITAS documentation states a certain thing does not make it a fact and that is truth.

Sure,
Since I didn't find anything specific to study, I read all of the manuals as well as peruse a couple of NetBackup forums.
That was basically it.

Media Manager = 468 pages
Sys Admin Guide I = 556 pages
Sys Admin Guide II = 242 pages
Commands for Windows = 431 pages
Install Guide = 133 pages
Release Notes = 122 pages
Trouble Shooting Guide = 635 pages

Any other manuals? - Thats about 2500 pages total

The VERITAS Data Protection Professional for UNIX Using NetBackup 5.0 Certification consists of 3 exams.. wich one did you pass?

DP-021x Design of Data Protection Solutions for UNIX (this one i found to be more of a math or arithmetic exam than a technical exam. I suck at math. I had to take this one 2 times. My best advice for this one is make sure you get something to write with from the testing center for this one.)

DP-022x Implementation of Data Protection Solutions for UNIX (This one was more technical and product oriented. 5 years of hands on NBU exp certainly made this one a piece of cake)

Then you can pick one between Foundation Suite Basics and Storage Foundation 4.0 Specialist. I chose the Storage Foundation 4.0 Specialist one. It is fairly involved but its passable if you have the right background and study your eyelids off. But I can not say fairly because I have a pretty fair amount of experience with VxVM and VxFS so the basics were not a big deal, its all the new stuff that gets ya.

I throughroughly enjoyed my boss' reaction when i told him I passed the storage foundation exam wrapping up the 3 test cert. He failed it himself and did not think I could do it. haha!

I too work for a VAR and I know what it is like to be told "hey, you have to be certified in this and that in the next 2 weeks!" What is one supposed to do? My boss tells me its my job to get certified in something I never touched before in my life and I want to keep my job, so I learn whatever it is and pet past the test. Its a pain in the worst spot but its life.

i just re-read your post. i see you are talking about DP1. My apologies for asking something you already stated.

No problem collective7.
By the way, did you or do you work for Collective Technologies by any chance?
I used to and I thought you might based on your username.

Interesting.
I have the DP-001(X,W), DP-002(X-W) NB 4.5 I got it quite some time ago. I think I'll skip the 5.x and go to the 6.x when it becomes available. Any word on 6.x certification exams?

i know of collective technologies well, i remember meeting Curtis Preston when he still worked for them years ago, but i never worked for CT myself.
