Hi,

For legal reasons, I need to create a new company in GP, and export EVERYTHING from the current company and import it into the new company. The only changes will be the company name itself, the start date and the fact that it is a new database.

EVERYTHING includes exact duplicates of:
AR, AP, GL, PO, Inventory, any open orders, customers, users, currency exchange tables, (no payroll module), banks, payment terms, sales order processing, item classes, supplier classes, vendor classes.

Things I'm not importing are:
Company name, start/end date, any history.

Really the nuts and bolts of it is that I have to transfer everything excluding company name, start/end date, any history.

If anybody could give me any advice, steps to take, documentation on the internet, or things to watch out for, I would appreciate it!

I do not have a Great Plains customer care contract with Microsoft so I am a bit on my own on this.

Thanks for your time,
John

Why can't you just change the company name in the setup?

I'll assume you are using SQL 7.0 or higher.

I believe all you need to do is create the new company in GP Utilities. Then restore a fresh backup of the original company into the new company.

Sorry I didn't see the History in your omissions.

After you restore the existing company into the new company, you can use File > Maintenance > Clear Data to remove the history from the history tables.

You could then change all your starting numbers, if you wanted (IE journal entry #, invoice #, cheque #, etc)

Or use the utility to remove history.

There is also a HotFix to copy setup files from one company to another but then you would need to re-enter the open transactions.

Thanks everything worked.

One question, I cant seen to get rid of:
Vendor Credit Summary - Last Invoice and Highest Balance.
All the history seems to be cleared...just those two items

Thanks again

Did you try reconciling the vendor? Checklinks maybe?

Yes everything worked great.

Thanks for your help
