This is a bit maddening... I've done a keyword search here and on Google and found some very good advice. Unfortunately, I still can't rsh into my Red Hat 7.1 system from my Solaris Quick Restore backup host. Here's what I've done so far:

1) Made certain the "disable" line in /etc/xinetd.d/rsh is equal to "no"
2) Added the Solaris box I'm trying to come in from to /.rhosts
3) Added a "rsh" line to /etc/securetty.
4) Restarted xinetd.

I still get "Connection refused" from the Linux box.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

root should have remote login capability because I added the "rsh" line to /etc/securetty. Yes?

ack..

Do not use rsh, it is a bad thing<tm> and AFAIR it is not installed by default in redhat anymore...

you should go to and install openssh on the solaris box, and use ssh instead of rsh... more secure and reliable :)
