Friday night a storm came through and turned off the power to my building. After a few seconds the power came back on, but the partner system did not. I am running a 12 year old Lucent Partner Mail VS system with an ACS 103g4. I opened the system up and checked the led lights none of them were on. I then directly connected the power supply to the expansion module on the far left it powered up. Next connected the power supply to the second module (mail) I could her it power up but no lights came on. I then directly connected the power supply to the ACS module, it began to spark and shut down.
I have found an Avaya system with a 103G15 and 103G9 modules. Can I take one of these modules out replace my ACS module?
Please let me know if I have any other options.

Thanks
Jason

Partner modules, for the most part, are backwards compatible.

Given the circumstances behind the system's failure, I'd suggest replacing the carrier and all of the modules.

You could use the (R6?) processor, but you'll need to program the system from scratch.

The voicemail is shot. Depending on your needs, you could go with a Partner Voice Messaging PCMCIA system or the Avaya Partner Messaging.

If a good UPS isn't being used to power the system, investing in one would be worth it. Also make sure that the telephone lines are properly grounded by adding a secondary surge protectors (if none are currently in use).

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Okay, so I have a new carrier and processor installed. Now when turn the system on I can not get a dial tone to any extensions. When I try to call in on either line (I have two numbers) I get sent straight to voice mail but I can't leave a message. Any suggestions.

Is the new processor the same revision as the old one or is it a brand new R8?

Can you explain what programming, to the new processor, has been done so far?

Part of the installation procedure is to tell the processor how many telephone lines there are, point telephone lines to the voicemail and assign voicemail ports to Hunt Group #7.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

The voice mail probably didn't fire up before without a working processor. Now that it is working, the voice mail ports are receiving incoming calls, and doesn't know what to do with them.

You need to determine the extension numbers of the voice mail ports, by counting from the processor starting with extension 10, through the expansion module, and then to the last 2 or 4 of the voice mail card. Once you know that, assign them to Hunt Group 7, and that problem will be solved.

Okay, so here is the new setup:
ACS 103 G15/G16
Partner Mail R4.1
308 EC module

I have two lines coming in. The second line is also used as a fax line. I have the main extension at 10 and 5 other extensions. When I turn the system on I get a lot of static at extension 10 and nothing at the other extensions. When I call in on either line I am sent straight to voicemail. Please help me set up the initial programming.

Thanks.

You have been farting around with this for 10 days. Don't you think it would be wise to get a phone tech in there to straighten it out.

ttech,
I work for a small non-profit with little resources. If you are volunteering your services (as I do) please leave me a message and I will let you fix this for me.

Thanks.

This will get you started.

If 10 still has static, and nothing at the other extensions, the ACS is fried, and you should follow Dexman's advice to pitch it and start over. You will be chasing gremilians from the lightening hit forever.
