Hello there.

First I have to apologize in making this new thread since there's already plenty of info at the forum. Nevertheless, I've tried reading every topic and have failed in setting up my PBX SMDR. There's no one in town that knows the equipment. I'm no IT guy, I have made my research but I know a just little bit. So this is the story.

We have a hotel equipped with a NEAX 2000 IVS with 2 PIMs for the telephone lines. There are 85 rooms with individual lines, plus 20 or so admin lines. We have 3 DTerm Series i Telephones, and 9 outgoing standard telephone lines. Basically that's it. It is used only for transferring calls from front desk, making outgoing calls, once in a while a wakeup call, etc. It was set up about 15 years ago, and we haven't had any problem at all. It had SMDR set up before and worked, but it was messed up and haven't figured out how to make it work again.

It has the following cards: Main processor, 8RSTA, a lot of 4 PN LCD for the internal telephones, 3 4COT cards (but only 9 numbers assigned), an AP00 A cards, and some others. So I want to set up the SMDR to log the calls. I have the software and everything. I made a card reset, and made the configuration that somebody wrote on "NEC Guru 2014 - SMDR with AP00". I have tried logging with terminal, or the logging software with no results (it connects to the PBX, but I think the PBX doesn't send information).

This is all the data I know:

AP00 A - COMM it is set on PORT 0 (bottom one), 9600 baud, 1 stop, No polarity, 8 bits. I know my card works, and cable as well, since I could talk to the PBX using MATWorks 32 when connecting to the MP card (but I don't know how to use the software anyway).
The three DTERM phones are located on PM0- LT0 - LEN 0000, 0001, and 0003, and are called F120, F103 and F108.
The 9 outgoing lines are located on three 4COT cards on PM1- LT13 LT14 LT15 - LEN 0116 to 0127, and are called D000 to D008.
You have to dial 9 in order to get access to an external line.
If it helps - I know how to get into CAT mode and entering commands and all.

That's all I know. I believe what I'm missing is one step that is to assign outgoing SMDR to individual station number, and by trunk route number. I really don't know how to locate the trunk route number or station (I'm not really sure what is a 'trunk' or 'station'). I don't know either how are the external lines assigned when you press 9, or where do the incoming calls go where(I know 2 of the 9 numbers go to station E201 and the 7 others go to E200).

I hope somebody could help me out. Thanks a lot.

The AP00s are notoriously known for lightning damage, it is possible that the card (if it has been left connected whilst unused) may have been damaged at some time in the past. You could try programming another port up and see if that is OK.

Download a copy of the command manual Look up CMD D101/D102 and follow the procedure to default the AP-00 card. Switch setting changes are required in the procedure. It will default port 0 to SMDR at a very slow 1200baud. Connect hyperterm up to the SMDR cable (RS-RVS - reverse). Place a call and look for the raw data. If it fails, follow the guide to feature programming (Feature Programming Manual - same web site) and set up port 1 the same as port 0. Test again. If you get an output, then change the baud rate to what you want. A card reset is required after any changes that are made in CMD's D100/D101/D102. The system defaults the stations and trunk routes to allow outgoing SMDR. Incoming requires changes.

Hi there.

Thanks for the prompt answer!. I'll do what you're telling me. Just a thought. I made the card reset as specified in the manual just a bit before. Somebody wrote on another thread, that a way to know if a card was OK or BAD, was to see if the blinking green light speed was the same as the MP (like 2 per second), and it is the same. I have made the card AP INITIAL as well after any D000 or D001. Anyway, I'll try another port as well and tell you the results. I appreciate quite a lot your help.

Ok. Status report.

I have made the card reset as specified in the manual. Also configured port 0 function to not used, and port 1 to SMDR (4), to get 1200, 1, N, 8. And all the other settings like Tandem Calls and so.

No results on call logger or hyperterminal.

Are there any additional settings in hyperterminal that I have to put in, other than equaling the comm ports? I read somewhere that using the V100 emulation helps. I tried normal and V100, and nothing. I don't know what I should be expecting. I'm sorry to bother you guys, I wouldn't do it if I had access to a Technician.

By the way. I have tested with with a bunch of cables, because I don't know their exact function. I have the NEC Mat cable, the one that has always been there. Theres another cable that has a smaller end (9 pin they say). Also, I made sure to buy a nullmodem cable as well, but that doesn't work either (with that one, I'm unable to connect to the PBX using MATWorx). Just to let you know as well.

The MAT cable usually works. On the other cables look at the white label. It should have something like RS-RVS on it. The RVS means it's a reverse cable and that is what is used for SMDR/MCI/MAT. In hyperterm you should see raw data come through after a call is completed. Place a call and wait 10-30 seconds to satisfy any call set up timers. If you get garbage, then the hyperterm settings are not matched. Most likely baud rate. If you still get nothing then you may need to locate a replacement AP-00 card. A flashing green LED at 120ips means that the card is recognized by the system. It does not mean the IO ports are good. Make sure the switch settings on the front edge are set properly for on-line operation. Refer to the manual for the settings.

Hi there again.

I tried as specified, and nothing. I made the card reset, again, and I get nothing. I know the cable is fine because I could access the system in CAT mode via Hyperterminal, and made commands. It is quite possible for the card to be bad. Anyway, is there any last resort thought that could be happening? I've been thinking, for the things that I don't know, probably the format? Right now is 2400 IMS format. Or, can a single port be bad? I don't know... I'll start looking for another card anyway. Thanks a lot for your help!.

Just need to clear up a couple of points here. This is an IVS, not an IVS2 right? because the IVS MAT cable is a DB25 connector and the AP00 isn't (I don't know the name of the AP00 connector but it is square in shape) this connector was adopted for the MAT connector on the IVS2 and IPS. So what are you using to connect with?

If you are going to buy a new card, bear in mind that you don't have to use the -A, you can also use the -B which I think is more common.

Hello there!

That's a document I haven't seen so I'll take a look ASAP. Yes we have an IVS. The cable I'm using is the NEC RVS cable (don't remember the exact name). It has a square connection suitable for the front AP or MP ports, and on the other end has a db25. I used a gadget to reduce it to a db9, and then a db9 to usb. I have hooked this to the MP port and get access via hyperterminal (I have tried hooking directly to a pc the db25, or the db9 or with a null modem).

Let me see the document and i'll post as soon as i get results.

Thanks a lot!

Ladies and Gentleman.

I'm pleased to announce that I have successfully restored functionality of the AP00's SMDR. I followed the cheat sheet posted by OzzieGeorge, only to find out that I was in the right direction, but both Port 0 and Port 1 are not useful. I tried the instructions on port 0 with no success; then port 1 with no success either; but port 2 works like a charm.

Thank you Belevedere and OzzieGeorge for your wonderful help. If you ever come to Cabo contact me to get a free stay =). Thanks a lot.

Co.

It's good to hear it's working. However, since two ports bad on the AP card, I suggest obtaining a spare AP card. You now have the time to search for one at a decent price. They may be getting scarce.

Don't come much cheaper than this.....

and there are a good few out there at the moment. Don't forget, you can use the -B as well as the -A

Oh and Kudos for you in getting port 2 working, the programming of these things jumps about considerably in the manual for the different ports, well done!

Guys. I wouldn't like to bother you again, but seems you know what you're talking about. I got a bad move from the phone provider and they changed my service from analog to digital trunks. I'm not sure how does this works, but they put a 'modem' that gets only one line and (i suppose) converts it to digital. The problem here is that the modem only has a COAXIAL output. I made a little research and found out (i believe) that a card can be inserted in order to get digital trunks, the "NEC PN-24DTA-A" or the "PN 30DTC" . The only problem is that I don't see how a coaxial cable can be connected. In the Card manual, when you get to this card, it says something like (coaxial connection not available in the USA). Do you guys happen to know anything about this? Thanks a lot.

BTW. Just as you suggested, I got in my hands another used AP card in good condition, for backup in case something happens with the other hehe. Thanks!.

Edit: I'm seeing that it won't be easy at all, from what im reading, but I just want to see if you can only point me in the right direction and I'll do the research. Thanks.

This sounds like what all telco providers are doing. They no longer provide copper trunks to your facility. They place routers on site that provide a RJ11 connection that goes to the pbx. The router converts IP to analog (FXO). They are almost always loop start, so you may need to change your trunk route data if you had ground start.

Thanks for the answer. I think that would be over my technical knowledge, and of course, I could learn by reading but I don't think I could get it done anytime soon. I'm wondering if theres a possibility for someone of you to help me remotely to program the switch of the trunks via skype or something, being me the one that execute the commands (and get everything needed to get it done). Of course I'm willing to offer advanced payment. I've tried here for some help but I don't think anybody knows anything about it. Sorry if I'm violating any rules in the forum. Thank you.

Do you know if the internal modem has been set up? Is there direct DID access to it? I think this forum frowns on such requests. In any case if I were to gain access, I would need some time in the system to "learn" how it was programmed and to determine how outbound dialing is set up. With or without LCR. If LCR needs to be set up, time on the system would be extended to program it up and someone on site to test.

Thanks for the reply. I do not intent to break any rules. It was only a polite request just because I don't see any other way... Anyway, I'll put up a system summary of what I know, so you can have a bit of background (but probably won't be much). I've never used modem, but can set it up. I'll do some further reading before posting it, in order not to waste anybody's time. Thanks a lot!.
