Thankyou

Looks like only partially the error message...write it down to make sure and post back.

Hi Gargouille
The error message, there has been a fatal error in OE 0187:BFF8CC32

I'm sure Gargouille will answer correctly when he next logs on, but the first two letters indicate Outlook Express.

Try uninstalling and re-installing, or just installing OE6.0 over the top. Regards

Phil

Ahhhh, that's better:
Searching at Tech Net on various combinations of the error message (finally got returns searching for fatal error OE)
left these to be explored:

You may want to bookmark the Tech Net site...there are sections on all the OS and troubleshooting is the least of the info there.

You may also search groups.google.com for the error message (try the complete 1 first, then modify it if you have to)
and get more hits than you can follow...

You can enter searches on error messages.(and will have to vary them to get right answers)
Definitely worth exploring!

Another source of info on startup/shutdown errors....

Startup/shutdown issues go hand in hand with Win98, especially...
But lots of machines suffer such from incorrect settings in the Power section of the Control Panel...and the BIOS.

In Power Management:
Put NEVER in all 3 boxes. Save that profile to tell the system you mean it! LOL

Your motherboard manual will help with the BIOS settings and what they mean.
In the BIOS, turn OFF any Wake-on states (keyboard, LAN, etc.)...but BEFORE you change anything, write down the settings so you can set them back. Remember to SAVE and exit when making changes.
Be very careful, here, if you mess it up you may get an unbootable machine.
(But we'll do what we can to help fixit!)

This alone (last paragraphs on Power Management and BIOS settings) MAY fixit.

Hi Phil, as is usual our posts crossed in the aethyr...
thanks for the bouquet, but my success rate isn't THAT good.
You guys put egg on my face, regularly, and remind me of the great big wart I'm getting (as it should be!) LOL

Thankyou Phil I will try that.
So do i just uninstall OE i have installed OE 6 but still have the icon for the old version and that goes for explorer as well??

Star, too, Phil, for reminding me:
I never liked going to a newsgroup where someone's answering every post.
I need to back off and let the real experts have their say.

(note to self: apply 12-step recovery plan to newsgroup addiction)

Thankyou Gargouille

I will have a go at all those things bit worried about the unbootable bit........

I think if you just go to a download site, and I would always recommend that being a Microsoft site (despite what I say about them) only because you get the latest available, and just download from there (over the top as it were) or once you have saved the installation file to HDD, unistall from ADD/REMOVE or its own uninstall feature and reinstall.

When you used to go to the old WIN98 update site (is it still available?), if there was anything wrong with IE or OE,it would recommend a download inc. them

Note to Gargouille, If I recall my days of enforced Latin at school (I'm as old as a Conker tree, and personally knew Adam when he was a lad), the word expert means to come from a drip under pressure, and that's definitely me! Cheers guy. Regards

'Til you saying so reminded me, I'd forgotten that latin sig you use to use...(that I had to go look up)"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

(now how was it you say "ain't" in latin?)

And I'm getting long in the tooth, myself, old boy, and it ain't so bad when you get here!

Fractum non, I think!

Anyway, I've stopped doing Latin in favour of educating punters who use this site into saying THANKS

Vah! Denuone Latine loquebar? Me ineptum. Interdum modo elabitur. Regards

I have found an error message in my oe file,
OEMIG50.EXE File is linked to missing export ADVAP132.DLL:REGOVERRIDEPREDEFKEY
C:\PROGRAMEFILES\OUTLOOKEXPRESS\OEMIG50.EXE
A device attched to the system not functioning

What can i do to repair this please???

Read the 5th message in this thread and get to work! LOL
Seriously, try going to Tech Net with the link I gave and enter the error message with the instructions given and you'll find the answer.
This is a lot different than your 1st post: you're getting much better, already!
Look in Device Manager for problem devices=yellow exclamation points. If you really dig (clue: properties) you'll not only see a cryptic description, it may even tell you how to fix it.

But if you get stuck, again, come back and someone'll help.

They'll give extra points if you're trying to fix something and have problems and you can tell them what you tried and didn't work...this is a 2-way street and you'll have to do your part, too!

In technical terminology, your version of EITHER IE6.0 or OE6.0 is screwed or as we say in Latin Raptus. Download new versions and reinstall. Regards
