Music on hold connection help 1

Can anyone help me im completely new to phone sytems but have been asked to try to get the music on hold working on a norstar compact plus system and i have no clue whatsoever how to connect cd player to the system itself, any help greatly appreciated i know it has to be connected to the board somewhere but not sure which connection it is. could it be the MSCX? someone please help !

violet/green, green violet on the same block as the lines come into the system.....then you'll need to go into config programming and set "on hold" to "music

If you're really new to the business, then I'll give another recommendation.

If you're using a stereo/headphone/RCA cable, then you should know that a 66, or 110 block is not designed to terminate stranded wire.

To install it correctly, use a screw terminal phone jack. Cut, and strip back the cable from your music source. Wire the shield conductor to the red terminal, and the center conductor to the green terminal. Then use a pair of solid jumper wire to connect from, as ctelguy said, the violet/green pair of your CO block to the same terminals on the phone jack.

Doing it this way ensures proper connection, and gives a tech an easy place to test the output of the MOH device.

Be sure to use "both" center conductors if using radio or CD, to make sure you have both channels (left and right)of the stereo source going into your system.

Hi Guys...I'm having the same trouble. I bought a mini cd player from walmart. It came with standard head sets. I cut off the ear muffs....connected the center conductor from each side together, then connected the shield from each side together. But when I put these on yellow/orange (mine is an older Plus MICS so that's the pair the manual said use) I get nothing (I have turned on music on hold). At first I thought it was the port dead..but I have a second unit and it's not working on that one either, so now I think something else is wrong. Can anyone provide help?

With out a test set to hear if you are getting audio from the CD player it will be tough to trouble shoot. Make sure Music is turned on in feature settings also turn on back ground music this will let you have music come out of the phone speaker to hear if your connection works. To turn on Back ground press feature 86 on a phone.

I turned on background so I could listen, but all I hear is very light static (kinda dead noise). I'm wondering if the problem is the connection from the headset? Do I need an amp? I don't think so.

I know the headsets worked before the muff ends were cut off. I'm totally baffled.

I also put a tone on the pair as well...I was told a tone generator should come thru in the music on hold...but no sound there either. I'm lost!

I have a phone butt set...should I be able to hear the music from the cd player by connecting it to the lead ends from the cable?

Yes you should. Now the connection should be the shelded are the ground they should be together and the thin are your left and right together,also put it in the headphone jack and crank the volume.

No, you don't need an amp.
Yes, you should hear music with butt set.
Problem, you should w/o a doubt hear a tone generator through your telephone, IF background music turned on Ftr86 and your on correct pins. I know you can find the violet/greens, but you may be on the wrong amphenol. Try the other one.

Ok...progress. With the butt set, I can hear music (and also the tone with the TG). So now I know that part is working.

I'm on the telco block amphenol. I was trying the yellow/orange and also the violet/green. No go.

I have F86 turned on. In the config, under misc, I have bacground music to Y.

Am I just doing something wrong?

No.

Remember try both amphenols. It wont hurt anything.

tried both. On the one block, I did notice the red light came on on the tone generator, so I guess that was indicating I was on a station block that had power.

I'm befuddled. I thought I had everything right...but to have 2 systems doing the same thing...makes me think it's me!

Can you tell me when they changed the pair for MOH? Some earlier manuals show yellow/orange...later show violet/green

I believe Y/Or is MICS. I've done this for 13 years and I never bothered to memorize, because I do what your doing. Background music on, tone in hand, going down all pairs, starting with blacks. Then all of the sudden, screaming tone out of the tel.

I'm baffled. Maybe someone else, has an idea.

OK...MORE PROGRESS

On the 8x24 unit, I get MOH on the last pair on the station block (violet/slate)

BUT on the MICS, I'm not getting it on that pair...would they have moved it?

SUCCESS!!!!!!!!!!

Well, on the MICS, yellow/orange on the 2nd station amp is the target. Working on the 110 block I couldn't just run down them (for this reason I like the 66 with bridge clips).

On the 8x24 (the older OLD unit), it's the last pair on the station block (violet/slate).

Hope this helps anyone else with the same issue!

Thanks for letting us know, I think you confused the help early on by posting you had a Norstar Compact. That's known as a CICS, you apparently have an MICS. Yeah, 110 sucks for a Norstar size job.

I am not trying to nit-pick on this but you would have saved a couple of days here by checking the FAQ's. the wiring pinouts are there as well as some suggestions on the wiring conversion itself
