Hi all,

We have MS NLB setup in multicast. The servers are on physical boxes and on VMWare. we also have teaming. We have 2 passports 8600 connected with an IST and a 5510 with SSMLT. Servers are plugged into the 5502 on vlan12 with multicast enabled. The problem is that only 1 passport can ping the VIP of the servers at a time. If I clear the ARP cache for the VLAN the response changes over and one VIP can be reached and the other cant from the other passport. The physical addresses are always reachable from both passports. The result of this is that only some users can connect to the servers at a time. The users that are connected to the passport that can ping the VIP. has anyone come across this problem before?

Thanks in advance guys

You didn't mention if you're using broadcast or multicast?

Have you reviewed the Technical Configuration Guide put out by Nortel regarding Microsoft Network Load Balancing?

I would suggest going to Nortel's website, register for an account and access the documentation for the ERS 8600 switch.

Cheers!

Couple of things to look at.

Win 2003 servers implement IGMPv3 by default. Nortel doesn't support this so you will need to change to IGMPv2

On 5500 make sure IGMPv2 snooping and proxy enabled on server vlan.

What version are you running?

We had similar issue, we eventually installed V4.1.7.1 S/W which resolved MS/NLB.
