I am testing the MWI feature included with Exchange 2010, it looks like a really simple solution, it sends a SIP notify message to the PBX to let the PBX know to turn on the MWI light for the given extention. There have been all kinds of posts on how to get this to work with Cisco Call Mgr, but nothing for the Nortel yet.

Has anyone been able to get this working on a CS1000 v5.5 system? How is this different than the Geomant solution with Exchange 2007? (Haven't worked with Geomant MWI yet.)

In the example below:
- CS1000 is 192.168.184.19
- Extention to light MWI is 8952
- MWI was enabled on the SIP VTRUNK DChannel RCAP in Element Manager.

Here is what Exchange 2010 is sending-

NOTIFY sip:8952@192.168.184.19:5060;user=phone SIP/2.0
FROM: <sip:EXCH10.exchsp2.local:5065;transport=Tcp;ms-opaque=c0a9707d87b52abb>;epid=CE41E04492;tag=ff304bbb93
TO: <sip:8952@192.168.184.19:5060;user=phone>
CSEQ: 5 NOTIFY
CALL-ID: ed8824c14154405fb2731b2ee275b843
MAX-FORWARDS: 70
VIA: SIP/2.0/TCP 192.168.152.116:23772;branch=z9hG4bK82cbb547
CONTACT: <sip:8952@192.168.184.19:5060;user=phone>
CONTENT-LENGTH: 100
EVENT: message-summary
SUBSCRIPTION-STATE: terminated
USER-AGENT: RTCC/3.1.0.0
CONTENT-TYPE: application/simple-message-summary

Messages-Waiting: yes
Message-Account: sip:8952@192.168.184.19:5060;user=phone
Voice-Message: 1/4

Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

The last I heard this is a known issue that requires a third party application that would allow this to occur. I am looking for my info and will post as soon as I locate it.

Go to element manager

Go to <IP Network>,<Nodes: Servers & Media Cards>
Find the node you wish to enable, most sites will only have one.
Click <Edit>
Expand <Microsoft Unified Messaging>
In <MWI application DN> add the DN of Voice Subscriber access for Exchange. This will be the same number as is in the <Subscriber Number Access> box below it (assuming Voice Access is working!).

You can also enable the VM softkeys for Nortel phones in this menu.
(if they press the envelope (key 16 on most Nortel phones) to access your subscriber number).

Thanks for the reply, I do have the subscriber access number & MWI Application DN setup in the Element Manager. My suspicion is that using the Geomant application the SIP from might look like.

FROM: <sip:5000@192.168.1.100:5065;transport=Tcp....

Instead of Exchange 2010
FROM: <sip:EXCH10.exchsp2.local:5065

Assuming 5000 is the Subscriber Access & MWI DN in both examples above. Notice no extention DN in the FROM: on Exchange 2010.

Can anyone post a SIP Notify from a Geomant MWI application to compare?

As you can see, I get the same thing you get; and mine works; have you set your UM IP Gateways to allow MWI, and your dialing plan to allow MWI?

Matt - with your example above your exchange voicemail extention is 3216... Your pilot number is something else, in Element Manager. Just curious are you using CDP or UDP in your Element Mgr config.

I verified in MS Exchange that the UMGateway has the checkbox enabled for MWI, but I can't see anywhere in the Dial Plan to enabld/disable MWI.

-- Below is an error message from the Exchange Event Log --

Warning 3/3/2010 4:30:58 PM MSExchange Unified Messaging 1344 MWI General

The Unified Messaging server failed to deliver the MWI notification '1/2 (unread/read)' for the UM-enabled mailbox '(80b31204-ec56-4679-86e5-455943a35ca5)' associated with UM extension '8952'. Additional information: Microsoft.Exchange.UM.UMCommon.MwiMessageExpiredException: An MWI message couldn't be delivered in the allocated time for user .

Actually my pilot DN is 3022, 3216 is **my** extension.

MWI dialing plan is set to CDP.

I meant Mailbox/UM Policy not Dialplan sorry.

My Pilot DN is 8887 and my extension is 8952 in my examples above.

I verified checkbox in MSExchange was enabled in both, "UP IP Gateways" & "UM Mailbox Policies". I was able to capture the SIP Notify leaving the Exchange server.

Does anyone know if any traces that can be enabled to capture an error message on the Nortel side? I am about 99% the problem is misconfiguration on the Nortel switch somewhere.

One difference from my switch and Matt's is that I don't have the "Unified Messaging Softkeys Enabled" option checked. Will have to try enabling that checkbox some evening and see if that makes any difference.

We currently still have Callpilot in the environment as we are just testing the Exchange features.

FYI I don't have the softkeys enabled at the moment, as there are some hard core users (directors etc.) on callpilot, when I moved them on to Exchange, we'll be able to enable this option.

I am assuming you didn't get any support for your CS1000, as all this stuff is generally done by our partner provider from whom we purchased all the equipment.

My understanding is that we have support for PEP's and that is about all. Everything else we pay time and materials for.

We asked our Nortel reseller for help with the project, no quote or help was ever offered for the project. We pretty much found out that they were not familiar with how to get this integration working. We were able to get Exchange 2007 setup in our lab environment on our own with the Nortel instructions, now we have begun testing the Exchange 2010 product.

Gents,

I know that your all working to get this resolved I certainly hope you do. However, when we moved to Exchange 07 UM from CallPilot we were asking the same questions around MWI generation. We looked at Geomant which was complicated and WAY overpriced.

We bought a little app that's sits on your Exchange UM server and it work great, 100% of the time. Have a look here
For a one off payment of $500 (nothing more to pay, ever) we got an app that works out of the box and has some great extra features. The support was ace. I even wrote a doc, which is now published, on his site on how we got it working in a CS1000 environment.

This is my personal opinion and I am not in anyway affiliated with this company. Just a very happy user.

matthardwick: I would be interested in seeing your D channel configuration as it relates to the CS1000
