Hi all,

I have a database in SQL 2000 that has to be moved to another server in SQL 2008.
Please if someone could tell me the best approach to migrate this database.

Thanks

I was told because they are different versions wont work. I have a back up done already. I am just waiting for IT to transfer it to the new server so I can restore it... Hopefully will work
Thanks

From the older version to the newer version it will work (e.g. from SQL 2000 to SQL 2008). You can not do the opposite - e.g.
you can not restore SQL 2008 database backup at SQL 2000 Server.

If your 2000 and 2008 versions are on the same network try this...

Right click on 2000 database
Export
Follow the wizard

I do this from time to time going from 2005 to 2008. It may not be the most efficient method but it works.
