Mobile Extensions: No audio

Hi all,

I've just setup Mobile Extensions with one of our 3300 ICPs. When someone rings my desk number, I've got it calling my mobile - which rings as expected.

The problem is, when the call is connected, there is no audio at all. I've tried twinning to another internal extension, but this has exactly the same problem.

Looking in the mobile_extension log on the MSL machine, I see entries like"2009-08-19 10:50:59.434195500 TRACE: MiRtpEndpointRepository::getEndpoint() - attempting to get an endpoint".

Our ICP and the Mobile Extension machine are connected via a single router, and there are no firewall restrictions between the 2 subnets.

Does anyone have any suggestions for what might be causing the problem?

Cheers,
-Jeff

As an update to the above problem:

I've just enabled answer confirmation and when I pickup the call I hear the "press *" message and the call is put through with 2 way audio!

Turning it off reverts to the original problem of no audio in either direction.

I think you can rule out network issues if you can dial "*" and it works.

Do you happen to be using a 6510?

Can you tell us what ver of Mobility and 3300 you are using?

I do remember a issue several months back where we DID have audio but pressing any DTMF was not heard. Fixed with update in mobility.

If they are on different subnets, then go in the Server Manger of the Mobile Extension and click on "local networks". Add the subnet of the ICP.

What makes you think that you have time to fix it?

Thanks for your replies. I'm using Mobile Extension V1.7.111.0, The 3300 is version 8.8 I believe.

The subnets shouldn't need to be added as local networks as they are properly routed via the default gateway. If this was a problem I don't think the Mobile Extension would be able to interact with the 3300 to detect the incoming call / place the mobile call.

Why would you ask for advice and then not use it? Humor me and try it.

Think of the Mobile Extension server as a firewall. You have to approve traffic from other subnets.

Sorry, You are right - I should have tried your advice seeing as I am asking for it.

I added the local network to include the /16 that the Mitel 3300 is on - I did this under the Mitel Standard Linux settings.

The result I get is exactly the same - no audio unless I use the Answer confirmation option.

jnfern,
paterson is exactly right. This needs to be checked. Be sure that ALL your local subnets are in the local subnets of the mobility server.

Interesting how turning on the * fixes problem ( i.e you are giving the system a definite answer supervison ). Sounds like the system can't tell that you have answered. Although you should not have that issue on an internal phone.
All this in place?

Enable the following COS options:
Desktop Monitors
• HCI/CTI/TAPI Call Control Allowed
• HCI/CTI/TAPI Monitor Allowed
• Privacy Released
• Public Network Access via DPNSS
• Public Network to Public Network Connection Allowed
Outgoing Lines
• HCI/CTI/TAPI Call Control Allowed
• HCI/CTI/TAPI Monitor Allowed
• Public Network Access via DPNSS
• Public Network to Public Network Connection Allowed
• Suppress Simulated CCM after ISDN Progress

The desk phone stops ringing as soon as I answer the mobile, so I'm presuming it has detected that I picked up on the mobile.

The CoS options are enabled - I've got 1 CoS group which includes all the options for both types (hopefully that isn't a problem).

The key element is that twinning to a local extension has the same issue. This eliminates numerous possibilities.

Local networks still looks like a contender. To verify, try placing a PC on the same subnet as the phone and try to access the URL for the MAS Service Manager. If it will allow login and you have not allowed remote logins then the local networks setting is good.

Are there any other App's running on the MAS? if so what?

Is the MAS running in a DMZ?

Is the MAS setup with dual NIC's (server and Gateway)?

Agree, I could see a cell phone not giving answer supervison but a local phone should definitely give it.

I am able to log into the web application from a machine on the same subnet as the phones.

The system running Mobile Extensions only has Mitel Standard Linux and Mobile Extensions on it. There is a single interface card in use (there is a secondary one in the machine but this is not configured at all).

The System is on a subnet connected via a router to the subnet with the Mitel 3300 / phones. There is no firewall restrictions in place between these 2 subnets. There are firewall restrictions blocking access to these subnets from the rest of the network - it's not specifically a DMZ as that would imply some traffic should be allowed in.

In the future we might allow user web access to Mobile Extensions, but that isn't allowed right now.

Cheers,
-Jeff
