Im quite new to the Mitel Standard Linux and its teleworker blade application. Just started my firt installation and already having a problem. The teleworker is being deployed in server only mode and is only being used on the local lan, so no publicly routable address or anything. I have installed the MSL and blade and just installed one phone to test. I can initiate a call to and from the teleworker but there is no audio or rtp stream. I have defined my local subnets in local networks tab. Under the "router" information, I have put in the same gateway as used for the teleworker nic itself. There shouldnt be any nat settings/port forwarding as all of the communication is behind the firewall. Can anybody shed anymore light on this ?

I'm confused a little, we use Teleworker phones but from outside our network. Why would you want to use teleworker on your LAN, if I assume the sets can already set the Mitel controller.

I do not understand that eighter !!!

Teleworker is designed so remote phone's can connect to it
If this is only because you need to test it then still i would set it as server-gateway and setup another little network

Read the install and engineer docs for reasons why there is no speech
But it is a network issue, that is for sure !

Hi Casio,
Can you log into the server still?
If so, grab a laptop and download the TNA (teleworker network analyzer). Pop in the IP address of the server and check the ports.
Are you using this over a WAN for the jitter buffer's sake?
Do you currently employ VLAN?
I agree with Peter, looks like a network/routing/port problem.

Your questions are enlightening more it what is not said than what you have.

No mention of DMZ
No mention of port config for firewall.

My assumption, you're making it up as you go.

Try getting a manual and follow the steps for a Server Only installation.

We have this same problem, however our MSL/Teleworker config is in a server only environment (APC card on a CX) All ports are opened and forwarded and we are using YA softphones in teleworker mode. Everything connects, but we get no sound.

Hi Rob,
If you have the teleworker server behind a firewall with port forwarding I'm afraid it will never work. We tried a few times, no go.
Port forwarding is not supported. The most reliable and quickest way to get this up and running properly (as previously suggested) is to install the system in server/gateway mode. Expose the Wan nic directly to the internet. This will require an outside routable IP address dedicated to the teleworker app. It will work for sure.

You can't believe anything you read... unless of course it's this.

Port forwarding is supported on the Teeworker! Has been since version 3. Depends on your DMZ device. 2 ports DMZ aren't supported (although have had one working). Plus there is some docs from Mitel on how to set it up. Always use port forwarding more than Server / Gateway and don't have problems. The biggest miss in the Port forwardimg / DMZ scenerio is that voice FROM the lan to the outside world must go to the OUTSIDE Interface address not the inside. So you do an inside and outside statement. Dobne Pix and Checkpoint mostly

We have teleworker working in both DMZ and Port fowarding setup. However we have the issue in the port forwarding config exactly how Matt has explained, calls connect but no voice. He might have just hit the nail on the head.

Rob

9 times out of 10 in DMZ scenerios that is the answer. The streams aren't matching. What firewall are you using?

Cisco PIX. I've just checked all the translation rules and access rules. They appear to be fine but still no voice.

Hi Matt,
Re-reading the docs and of course you are correct!
What I was referring to was those el-cheapo 2 port routers that "pretend" to have a proper DMZ or just port forward.
A nice Sonicwall or Cisco pix can do those things and yes it works because they provide a proper hardware DMZ. So, point taken, I should choose my words more carefully next time! ;>)

no probs mate,::)))

Rob

I've got a specific guide to setting up pix for Teleworker. Send me your email and i'll forward

Thanks Rob, that would be great!
I am being a newbie knob here, but can't see how to email you.
I click on your name but can only see info...
(I'm going to look stupid here, I can feel it coming...)

Cheers Matt, that would be good, but where do I get your email from. I would put mine on this thread but it would be open to sales abuse.

rob and dave,

Sorry, meant to say post your email address and i'll send it in normal email terms, off forum! ::))

Guys, For future reference, to avoid spam, never post your email in the proper format. Make it something that a person can figure out but not a machine that trolls websites for email addresses.

e.g.
name "DOT" name "AT" thisplace "DOT" com.
