How can I setup a shared voicemail box on a Mitel 3300 system that will flash on multiple phones when there's a message? Can you direct me to any documentation or instructions?

Thanks!

you can create message waiting keys on phones that will give indication when a message it left in the monitored mailbox. However, my experience of this is that it is a bit hit and miss. Create the mailbox and create message waiting keys in 'multiline set key assignment'

Thanks for the info, however, does anyone have a "for dummies" style guide on setting up the voicemail from scratch that is not tied to an extension?

I don't make configuration changes on Mitel systems all that often, (other than extension names, system times, speed dials, voicemail passwords, etc.) and would like some sort of guide.

Also, does anyone recommend a particular type of Mitel training?

For a lamp to work the MB must be associated with a Prime line or a Key Appearance. The key does not need to be associated with a prime.

Simply create the extension/Key route to VM and create MWI keys on sets.

So I've setup the voicemail mailbox (179) but how do I make that show up as a key appearance?

I've tried configuring it in the Multiline Set Key Assignment, but is there some special characters to put before it, or something else that I need to setup first? (Other extension information, or some sort of speedcall, etc.)

I've posted a screenshot of where I get to, but it just comes back with an error saying "The directory number is in use elsewhere."

Any additional help would be appreciated.

set the key you want to a message waiting indicator key and assign the DN as the mailbox (179)

perhaps the fault is you have 179 as something other than an extension or key appearance.
Go to the maintenance command and type LOCATE FEATURE EXTENSION 179
if is a hunt group, ACD Path or anything other than a extension or multiline key app you will need to delete before it will work

I contacted our provider (at $30/15min), and now I've made instructions:

Setting up a shared voicemail box

Setup a voicemail box. (System Administration > Voice Mail > Voice Mailbox Configuration > Add)

Setup the call rerouting to all “2”s – so that it goes directly to the mailbox.
(System Administration > Call Handling > Call Routing > Call Rerouting Assignment)

Define some key on any phone as “Single Line” with the Button Directory Number set to the voicemail box number (e.g. 157)
(System Configuration > Devices > IP Telephones > Multiline IP Sets > Multiline Set Key Assignment)

Define a key as a message waiting indicator on all the phones you want it to show on. Setup one, then copy the key to other extensions.
(System Configuration > Devices > IP Telephones > Multiline IP Sets > Multiline Set Key Assignment)

Seems to work quite well.

I have set up everything as you have described above and it appears to be working for one phone. The problem I am encountering is that once I try to program the MWI key on another phone, it tells me that it the directory number is in use elsewhere. I can create as many MWI keys as I want as long as they are on the same 3300 as the single line I programmed.

I am assuming this problem is occuring because I am attempting to program the MWI on a phone which is on a different 3300 ICP than the phone which has the single line configured. does anyone know if this is possible?

@ benjaminp - It is best to start your own threads and link to others if you feel it is necessary.

That being said, the answer to your question is MWI will only work for a local DN. You cannot assign a MWI on a remote system. There are means to circumvent this but I would need many more details on your system and voicemail and GVEIT does not need to be bothered by those questions.
