Hey folks,
Has anyone out there tackled migrating from a "standard" 3300 to the MCD/MXe Server platform? I'm looking at doing that in a couple of months, wondering what kind of headaches I'm in for.

Here's the layout: currently I have 6 ICP's handling my main site, acting in 3 resilient pairs. Trunking, VM, all of that is handled elsewhere, these are only hosting IP sets. Ideally, I'd love to be able to just backup the database on ICP #1, load it into the MCD box, and have my first phase done. The existing ICP's are all LX chassis (512Mb variety). Is this even possible or are the databases not compatible across the platforms?

The databases are compatible, I think there was a tech note on that somewhere. From what I remember, the main thing you had to do was deprogram all of your TDM trunks (and any other related TDM devices. Since you don't have any, it should work nicely.

Yes, ALL Trunks (except IP) and any analog cards, stations, bays need to be removed.

Things that do not work on MCD that you might not think about.
- Loudspeaker Paging
- DISA
- DHCP

I was faced with this same challenge about 6 months back. The customer wanted a phased approach to migrate 400 users. I used OPSman to move the users which was very time consuming. (Avg 4-5 minutes/phone)

I found a shortcut but couldn't get the customer (or Mitel) to sign off on it.

If your interested: The shortcut is to make each phone resilient to the MCD. Manually change the Remote Directory in the Primary and Secondary to swap the controllers. The phone detects the change and reboots automatically to synch with the new Primary. Phone is moved.
