Hello all,
I have a MICS-XC 4.1 12-port mega system needing 2 additional station modules. All 12 ports of fiber are being used and my customer does not want to upgrade the system to 7.1 to utilize ports 13 & 14 for station modules. I suggested removing 2 station modules by consolidating lines to unused ports on the ICS and other trunk modules, freeing up fiber ports 5 &6.

their existing setup is as follows:
fiber ports: 3,station ; 4,station ; 5,trunk(removing) ; 6,trunk(removing); 7,trunk ; 8,trunk ; 9,station ; 10,station ; 11,station ; 12,NAM 4.0 ; 13&14,no connection(companion ports).

I want to disable trunk mods in programming, power down, remove trunk mods, install and connect sta mods, and then power up. What order should I power up new station modules? Will this affect the numbering for the stations connected via expansion cartridge in slot 1, including voice mail ports?

You don't need to power down.

Disable Trunk mod port.
Power down trunk mods.
Connect Sta mods.
Power up station mods.

You will have a large gap in DN numbering because of B2 DN's on the existing mods unless you do a STARTUP after plugging in all mods. CHANG DN will become your best friend if you want it sequential.

Just to make sure it's clear…

Your existing DNs won't change unless you do one of the following:
[ul]
[li]Disconnect an existing Station Module and reconnect it to another port of the expansion cartridges[/li]
[li]Manually change a DN using the System Programming > Change DNs utility[/li]
[li]Reset the system using the STARTUP utility[/li]
[/ul]

Since your plan doesn't involve any of the above, there is nothing to worry about.

Thanks for the info...I thought I would be ok with this plan of action, but since it's at a local airport and I can't start work until midnight after a 16 hour day already, I wanted to make sure. Thanks allworx and multimedium. I'm excited to get the job done...since it is a competitor company that called our company in to assist with the transition.
