Hello,

I have a sight with an MICS 4.1 and a NAM. We have just purchased a new sight with an that has an older MICS(dont know software, but not programed at all so a 7.0 upgrade is no problem) We plan to install a point to point t1 between the sights and want to share voice and data over the T, and centrallized voicemail. How is this implemented without channel banks? Can the MICS be networked? I have read up on voip trunks but am a litttle unclear on how to interface with the systems.

Another option is BCM's but figured with the systems already there..... Im sure this is very common setup, and any insight would be greatly appretiated!

Thanks

You can use Norstar Gateways to interface with the MICS as long as the MICS have the GATM trunks available and a combo services card for the DTMF Receivers per MICS.

Linking the 2 sites is easy... you need a T1 & services card for each site (if you have a combo card, the services is not required).

Configure each as an E&M, setup routing, and you're good to go.

Centralized voicemail is a little trickier... there are some threads here that cover it.

i have read the threads on centralized voicemail and thats not my main concern.

I want to share the T for voice and data. I looked up some info on the voip gateways that crowtalks had metioned and looks like they take 4 trunk ports and a LAN connection at both ends. What exactly can I do through this gateway?

Our setup is point-to-point between our 2 sites, with 4 channels dedicated to voice, and the other 20 to data.

Depending on the type of T1 (a true point-to-point, frame relay, etc), depends on the type of equipment that you'll need.

When we had a true point-to-point, we had an Adtran unit at each end. When we switched to frame, we still have the Adtran units, but also have Cisco IAD's.

I'd suggest that you contact your telco to suggest what type of equipment you'll need to share voice & data over the T1.

You can call, tandem and transfer between systems as if they were one box, as long as you use CDP. You cannot page between systems using VoIP Trunking across the T1 connection. If you are sharing Voice and data, you need QoS across the T to ensure prioritized voice traffic.

If anyone chooses to set up a Nortel Gateway, I have a copy of ETAS Gateway Lab that I can download to a URL so you can download it (as soon as I scan it to my PC)

Crowtalks, can you send me a copy of that ETAS Gateway Lab?

how do you connect two each mics that are both on site
using 1 ea NAM 4.0

Crowtalks, I would also like to see that. When you scan it how can I get it from you?
