I've got a Nortel MICS v1.1 connected to 8 POTS lines. My boss wants to switch over to VOIP using a CISCO 2431 IAD. Anyone out there have experience going through something like this? Is there a lot of MICS configuration to do or does the system just come up? I need some idea of how complicated a process this will be to determine whether to call in a PBX vendor just for the transition or whether to "go it alone" and try to do the MICS configuration ourselves. We have minimal programming knowledge, about equivalent to an average Phone system administrator, very little installer-level knowledge. Thanks for any tips.

Specifically the ISP is asking us:

FXS Configuration: Signal Type- Loop-start vs. Ground-start

Dial Type- DTMF vs. Pulse

Hunt Sequence- Incoming Shared Design or Incoming Dedicated Design or

Outpulsing

Do yourself a big favor and call a qualified vendor who can actually dispatch a certified Norstar tech.

I believe the answers you are looking for are:

1) Loop

2) DTMF

3) Will vary from system to system and since we have no idea how your system and line hunting is set up now, and we also don't know how you want it set up on the CISCO unit, only you or your vendor can answer that question.

Thanks for the help, Phonehed. My boss still wants to go this alone for a while without the help of a certified tech. His plan is to test the system at night during the week between the installation of the IAD and the porting of the main number by the telco. If we can't get it to work ourselves, we'll call in a certified installer before the main number is ported.

One of my biggest problems is finding proper documentation. I have an installer guide for MICS 5.0 and MICS 4.0 but nothing for MICS 1.1. Anyone know where I could acquire a MICS 1.1 installer guide?

Thanks in advance for any help.

We just went through a similar conversion. We did however call an installer (just in case) and there was no programming to be done on our phone system.

I am assuming that your system is already setup for FXS, as our is.

We are doing another one of these Friday and we do have a vendor comming out, I would suggest you do the same thing.
