I purchased a Mediagate mg-25 (less than a month ago, and a new laptop harddrive to go inside of it. Now I can't use it on my TV (which is basically the point of the whole thing).

When I plug it into the TV it shows some of the signs of harddrive failure, clicking, freezing, and such. Last time I tried it turned on fine and then turned itself off before I could actually do anything. However, when I plug it into my computer it works fine. No problems at all, no odd sounds, no freezing.

While I initially thought the problem was the harddrive, the difference between TV and USB points me to something that isn't being used when its on my computer. That leaves the firmware (reinstalled it twice now, doesn't help, although it does seem to work the first time I turn it on after I reinstall the stuff), some of the actual hardwire and or wiring inside, or a faulty power source.

Sound right so far? What can I do to figure it out/fix it (other than returning it, which I am about ready to do)?

thanks in advance,

You might contact them about it, or the mfgr, see if there is a quick way to troubleshoot it or something they know could be a problem.
Not trying to put you off, but this is a product that not a lot of us would be familiar with and the people above would surely have some info for you.

thelogo,
Have you ever had it working successfully on your TV?
Did you install any software required for TV use.
You mentioned reinstalling firmware twice. Was any of it the upgraded version 1.2.8 located at the airlinktek website?

Maybe try moving your MP files off of the 2.5 drive and back onto your PC and re-prep the 2.5 drive.

Then put only one or two files back on and give it a try on your TV. Perhaps some of the MP files are corrupt and are screwing-up the playlist or drive access when hooked to the TV, but are not an issue when attached to the PC.

Yeah, the firmware was the stuff from airlinktek, but I also tried the new firmware from LG.

I did have it working on my TV, for the first 3 weeks, however there were infrequent freezes even then. Bearable, not worrysome at the time.

Right now I am checking out the adaptor, I found a forum for this specific device and have found at least one other user who has had similar troubles due to a loose fitting DC power supply.

I will follow your suggestions if that doesn't work, thanks for the advice :)

thelogo,
A loose fitting power adapter makes alot of sense. Perhaps it is loose fitting into the wall or surge strip and not the unit itself. I have had similar power issues (loose fitting) due to crowded and/or worn-out outlets vs. the weight of the power adapter.

It was teh power cord. I got it replaced and it works fine now.
