Hello,

I have about 15 ports or so on our phone system that give me no power or dial tone when I connect a phone to them. Can someone confirm for me whether that indicates that the ports are dead, or just "inactive" in the phone system somehow?

If they are ETR Modules the ports might not be programmed. If you want to run single line sets it needs to be set for sls. If you want to run Partner sets they need to be set to ETR.

We have a 408 MLX and four 024 TDL's. I was suspicious that they weren't programmed (or not programmed correctly). The only experience I have with this phone system is what I learned over this year, so I honestly couldn't tell. I have a "print out" of the settings for one of the lines, which I'll post below:

I would suggest the following:

In STANDARD SPM, go to MENU > Maintenance > Slot > Enter Slot 5 > and then STATUS

If it shows to be MAINTENANCE BUSY YES, do a RESTORE.

If it shows to be MAINTENANCE BUSY NO, then go to MENU > SYS PROGRAM > START > SYSTEM > AND THEN CHOOSE "Board Renum". (Bear in mind, this will stop your system for a short time.

If that doesn't fix it, get back to us.

Thank you. Looks like I'll have to do the Board Renum, which means I'll do it the next scheduled downtime. I'll update this thread at that point.

You do know that MLX phones will only work in MLX ports and 4406/4412/4424 will only work on TDL ports, right? You aren't testing these ports with the wrong style phone are you? That could be why you are having "dead" ports.

I did not know that. I happened to have discovered that today when I moved an employee to a new cubical, where she had an MLX and the port in the new cube had a line to a TDL. I was testing all the ports with a 4412D+. What I'll do is test the MLX with a spare MLX phone. If that gives me a couple of open ports, I'll run with that until we upgrade to VoIP.

The MLX is wired differently, is it not? Looked like 4-pair, or maybe even 8-pair.

D'oh! Meant to say 2 pair and 4 respectively. I think my brain was on cruise control when i posted last.

Thanks guys.
